Challenges for GB government

@WAJsal

As usual a great thread by you. On the question of G-B I have been thinking of this. I think it now is time to accept the reality. In any future negotiation the only part of former J&K that concievably be brought to the table is the Kashmir Valley. Jammu and Ladakh are no, no as far as even discussion.

Therefore keeping this in mind what Pakistan should do is integrate G-B as fully fledged province of Pakistan. Then in any negotiation with India link it with Jammu/Ladakh. In other words India can draw a red line around Jammu and Ladakh. Pakistan draws a red line around G-B therefore these regions fall out of any negotiation. That just leaves Valley of Kashmir and AK to be discussed.

I think this is the best way forward. I also would want the Pakistan government to increase the budget to G-B by 50% as a reflection of this areas importance to Pakistan's strategic future and for all the sacrifices that these magnificent people have made for Pakistan. I had the privilage of calling as a friend whose surname was Shigre many decades ago and I believe he was related to that IGP.

Good idea, i don't think our government will accept it, as they need votes from GB for future referendum.

A better system in which corruption is tackled, federal is so corrupt in this manner. corruption, nepotism, ignorance..... autonomy is needed, a better status, in which the areas get to rule themselves, raise their voices and etc, etc...
Very sad to see that even after so many years GB is still neglected and not given basic rights. If it wasn't for the likes of Aga Khan, the region would be no different than FATA, all credit for high literacy and low crime rates go to such NGO's for their work, and of course the army chipping in now and then. But building dispensaries and schools in remote areas Government can learn something from Aga Khan foundation.
Image in itself is enough, no description needed. This also answers your first part of the post.

Its not only you, ask anyone in GB, he will answer same
This matter in fact contradicts with the reason why Pakistan was made, thus the reason why everyone, on this thread, or in general feels this way and shares his support.
Aga Khan foundation has a phenomenal role in uplifting Education and health sectors for last many decades in GB. It is not the only hope of people of GB but Govt is also relying on its support. Since, AKF has strengthen many Govt institutions through their technical and financial contribution.
Agreed, work in remote areas, as seen by me is quite complimentary. Government should wake up and learn something.
69 years of deprivation. It a height of *****, I guess time has come to make a final decision. While, our think tanks, poicy makers are busy making money $$$.
Ignoring the issue will only escalate the sense of deprivation, i do not need to emphasize how patriotic Gilgitis can be, but still.... things can't continue like this. Beyond acceptance.
Not only strategic value, however, if we look at economic aspect whole CPEC is mess without GB. And more alarming thing is we are getting nothing out of it.
We had no representative to raise our concerns.....I think there are some small projects that GB will be getting out of it. then there is KKH realignment. Still much can be achieved.
A very beautiful read bro. keep up the excellrnt job and spread the word
Thank you, share it with your colleges and etc,etc....
have a nice day

I am from Gilgit Baltistan and the main issue here is that the people are unaware of their political status. We call ourselves Pakistanis but at every forum we are narrated as citizens of Kashmir, KPK and even sometimes China.
Moreover the so called provincial assembly has limited powers, recently they have passed a bill clearly declaring it a part of Pakistan. People used their right to vote in favor of PML-N who had clear cut manifesto of giving constitutional rights to the people of GB. We are hopeful that soon we will get the constitutional rights. We call ourselves ourselves Pakistanis and we are proud to be Pakistanis.

you are assuming India wants or has any expectations for such negotiations.

Indeed, well said.

Which part bro?

I don't expect any solution in next couple of years. Solution of kashmir issue is not on the table in near future. We are not ready to give up as far as indian occupied kashmir is concerned.
Do you think peace with india (at the cost of kashmir) is in favour of Pakistan?
Answer is simple No.
Keeping in view the dynamics of the conflict , we need to discuss how to reduce discontent in subject area.
Simple answer
Increase the budget of GB.
Improve infrastructure, health and education facilities.

Hey man if you are from Gilgit-Baltistan, you are Indian not Pakistani.

On a personal note, as a Gilgiti and as a Pakistani first, i feel betrayed by the state.
Hey man, you too are from Gilgit-Baltistan? Than read my previous post.

GB was the part of state of Jammu & Kashmir. The future status of state will be decided through plebiscite according to UN resolution. If the GB will become the province it means the special status according to the UN resolution will come to an end. and the India will use it to convert the IOK as its integrenal part.
It was handed over to Pakistan for temporary arrangement in 1954 by then president Ibrahim Khan because they don't have resources and communication to govern that area. Which is called nahida e karachi.

I've always strongly supported the cause to make FATA as well as G-B proper provinces along with an immediate Local Govt setup to redress grievances at the local level. I hope the GB assembly presents a plan of action to the Federal govt to help achieve this, because if it happens it'll be a great milestone achievement in the history of Pakistan. Godspeed to them.

I am a proud Pakistani and if there are misconceptions regarding Gilgit Baltistan you should study its history and present conditions. We the GBians form an important part of Pakistan Army , The brave northern light infantry(NLI) , and we have , are and will sacrifice our lives for Pakistan because we are Pakistanis.
