The three countries agreed to hold the next round of consultation in India in 2019, according to sources. They also said that the US sanctions on the Chabahar port project were also brought up in the meeting. Apart from Chabahar, the port in Sistan-Balochistan province on Iran’s southern coast, which is being developed by India and Iran has also come under the US Sanction on Iran.

Last week, the US delegation led by Secretary of Defence James Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the 2+2 talks with India in New Delhi and the latter raised the issue about Chabahar and its strategic importance for strengthening trade ties with Afghanistan. The Chabahar port is important to the trade relationship with India, Iran and Afghanistan.

No waiver to India for Iranian oil, Chabahar port: US

Alice G. Wells, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, said in a conference call with journalists on Monday that restrictions also apply to investments in Iran’s Chahbahar port, a project built with India’s cooperation.

Ms Wells – who was briefing journalists on the two-plus-two talks between the US and India, held in New Delhi on Sept 6 – said there was no “blanket waiver or country-specific waiver” from US sanctions on trading with or investing in Iran.

So what do you think it means ?

. .
The words of Alice wells are crystal clear. Unless there are some hidden codes and meanings, please enlighten us.

The Americans have basically fcuked the idea!!!

Even if they allow it between, the Taliban running rampant & a U.S plotting and planning behind the scenes it will end up as the much vaunted "air corridor"

Then that’s it!! Mission accomplished and India is a looser in this case. Time to celebrate!!

.
Sure, so what do you think is going to happen ?

US will put sanctions on India ?

No, that is the case when India goes against the wishes of yanks. India will obey as told. Think of it on larger chessboard, India has been marketing itself to west as the bulwark against China and curing favours in return for too long without showing much in return. Now its time to deliver.

Who you are asking to celebrate? We have no dog in this fight. For India its time to deliver and obey as per American wishes on both Iranian and more importantly, on Chinese front.

Oh yea. I remember now, what happened to that "Air Corridor"? Has there been any more wheat shipment send to Kabul via Chah Bahar?

Her words are entirely mean for public release. But other than that it has little significance or meaning.

Fact is no US official can afford to appear lenient to Iran in public hence such statements are issued but behind the scenes they have agreed to Indian demands on Chabahar. Even regarding Iranian Oil imports India managed to agree US to only a 40-50% cut and not 100% that US demanded.

Ok. so you think India will cut oil purchase from Iran.

THen what will happen ?

India will face an Oil shortage ?

Iran will refuse to give Chabahar port to India ?
