Chabahar - Dead in the Water

Sanctions for the last many years haven't prevented India from buying Iranian Oil, went cash payments weren't allowed, we even paid in Gold... Iran and India have ancient relations and won't be affected by sanctions...

On the other hand, India just became 'Major defense partner' for the US, so the tech flow will be unhindered and continue. Unlike Pak, who captures and holds known terrorists just before important 'aid' related meetings so Unkil can throw some dollars into the 'begging bowl', India has enough regional pull to do what it sees are best for it's interests. Heck, our close friendship with Iran doesn't bother the Israelis either.
Good luck getting meaningful technology transfer from US even Japan and NATO don't get much. The only country that get something meaningful is Israel. They want you to be there market not their competitor.

Even French kicked India's butt when India asked for tech transfer and in the end settled with 36 when the requirement was of 126 and in order to save face Indian Minister was going around saying"oh we don't need more" haha

But on the bright side India could get tech to make bullets and artillery shells so India doesn't have to go and beg Russia every few months. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

Well with Make in India, we don't really need too much TOT anyways, I for one have been a vocal supporter of India weaning off the TOT titty, approach should always be about developing home made products further improving on tech base locally. French didn't really kick butt, they only wanted an exorbitant price for full tot. Either way, the Rafale is a strong contender for MII under a good amount of TOT and local assembly which would inevitably drive up the orders from 36 to many many more. Rafale is in the running for the Navy's 57 fighter contract as well, there are good chances it wins. That directly brings the potential number to 93.

Even for the 36 we ordered first, 50% of the deal value will be reinvested in India due to the offset clause and many of the fighter's non critical parts tec. will be made in India which allows us to fly and maintain them as we please.

True, India doesn't have enough production base for tank shells, so we 'bought' additional numbers, India pays for its purchases thank you. All this is being done to shore up factories running at peak capacity locally as well. Let's not try to compare the ammo and arms needs of India to that of Pak.
