Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies is a non-partisan research institute established with a vision to innovate future prospects for peace and security in the region and beyond, through undertaking research on global security, geopolitics, peace building and conflict resolution. We regularly conduct seminars, workshops, roundtables and conferences with government officials, dignitaries, academics as well as experts from every walk of life. Our goal is to actively promote regional harmony, global peace, and security, and stability by making substantive intellectual, academic and diplomatic contributions.
In a very short span of time, the Centre has emerged as a credible think tank and authority on the subjects of regional peace and security with a diverse Advisory Board as well as a distinguished International Expert Panel. We strive to provide our readers and stake holders with in-depth understanding of various national, regional and global issues, as well as attempt to effectively forecast potential developments and advance robust recommendations for policy makers. We use methodology that is based on a wide-ranging understanding of how geography, economics, politics and technology interact to shape international relations.
In this regard, the Centre has launched various projects that address the concerns of our varied areas of interest. The Centre is currently working on two mega projects titled, SALAM: Innovating Means to Resolve Radical Extremism in Pakistan, JOHAR: Contemporary Nuclear Debate in the Second Nuclear Age, as well as various other projects including Foreign Policy Review, Regional Integration and Regional Approach towards Peace and Security:GCC+1.
The Centre’s first Mega-Project ‘SALAM: Innovating Means to Resolve Radical Extremism in Pakistan’ was initiated in 2013, and aimed at establishing an effective counter-radicalization strategy for Pakistan by developing various implementable policy options. Under the umbrella of the project, the Centre has thus far conducted a Two-day International Seminar in August, 2013, a One-day Conference in February, 2015, a number of roundtables and workshops, as well as regular steering committee meetings to update the policy paper proposed by SALAM. Reports may be found on our website.
Similarly, under the second mega-project JOHAR: Contemporary Debate in the Second Nuclear age, the Centre aims to identify and anatomize the evolving misperceptions regarding Pakistan’s nuclear program and the impact they are creating in Pakistan, regionally and internationally. Our intention is to utilize the Centre as an effective forum for understanding and analyzing factors behind the promulgation of misperceptions and bias towards Pakistan’s nuclear program. We hope to devise a way forward towards the projection of Pakistan’s image as a responsible nuclear state. In this context, CPGS conducted a two day International Seminar, and has published a detailed report that can be found on its website.
