Thanks for the update, I am guessing this is a warmup for the larger frigates.

They specified 2000 tons and 85m Length Overall (LOA) so - this is very similar to the two vessels Damen has been building for the Pakistan Navy in Romania, don't know the current situation.

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) bhai may have additional comments unless he is busy on other things.

Would they be the "six frigates"?

Is this the indigenous frigate program?

If so, major disappointment.

Nope. The six frigates will be much larger and way more expensive. These OPV's cost around US$55 Million each, the Frigates BN wants will cost around $250 Million and up.

Nope.

Seems CDDL is going online with a decent warmup before the match. 6 OPVs sounds great for a start before the Frigate project is finalized!
About the aviation capability of the OPVs the requirement states landing space for Heli and drone but nothing about a hanger. At 2000TN displacement it should be possible to include a hanger. What do u think?

I don't think this is about the Frigate project. But just a start for CDDL to build BN ships. And the tender clearly states OPVs not Frigates.
Unlike BAF, I have utmost faith in BN! I don't think BN would disappoint us.

And the BD Navy, keep buying and building and buying and building and buying ...

Both built, now undergoing sea trials.

So news about six frigates turned out to be a hoax again.

Just one of these next-gen frigates will be more powerful than your whole crap Navy combined.

If the tender goes to China as it looks like it will(since BN only sees IN as threat), expect the following design:

4000+ tonnes frigate.
MFR AESA radar with ability to guide a dozen or more missiles simultaneously to dozen or more targets in air.
32 cell universal VLS - mix of medium(quad packed)/long-rang SAMs, cruise missiles and anti-sub rockets.

BN is soon going to be playing with the big boys and so stick with your manpad-equipped Navy.

Tender clearly states six OPV will be built, so why are you all mixing it with frigate project? Did anyone say CDDL can't build anything before frigate project? Was it the number what made you think like that?

If they operate UAV from the OPV then there's gotta be some kinda storage for that. I hope there will be hanger for helicopter accommodation.

It doesn't have any missiles?

It's an OPV. Why they will have missile? They can be fitted with heavy armaments if BN wants in some circumstances.

Just a 30mm gun

That's the real bummer. It will be like River class OPV. One 76mm and two 30mm cannons would have been amazing.

Well given the type of adversary this patrol vessel will face (most probably civilian), they I believe planned not to put in a 76mm cannon at this time, though a flexible provision to upgrade would be prudent I'd think.

If Patrol Vessels see any stronger adversary (say an LPC or even a corvette), naval doctrine usually dictates calling for more powerful backup, to match the adversary observed.
