THE NEWSPAPER'S STAFF REPORTER
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to install 25 flood lights in the neighbourhood of Banigala where the prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan resides.
A CDA source told Dawn that on the directives of the district administration, the civic agency has decided to install 25 flood lights in order to facilitate the security personnel deployed in Banigala.
The official said that CDA and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) officials had met with PTI leaders in regards to installing over 200 flood lights in the area and that the prime minister-in-waiting had opposed and said there is no need for such a large number of flood lights.
He said the PTI has also warned the CDA that trees should not be chopped off when installing the lights.
Magistrate has directed the civic agency to complete lighting work in seven days
The official said that initially, the PTI chief had rejected the installation of the lights and that law enforcement officials had then convinced him that that his security is a prime concern.
The CDA then decided to install 25 flood lights immediately and to install more if need be after the oath taking ceremony.
The official said that during a meeting of CDA and ICT officials, it was decided that security officials will be given search lights as well by the district administration.
When contacted, the civic agency’s spokesperson Malik Saleem said CDA has been taking steps for installing lights in Banigala on the directives of the local administration.
On Aug 1, ICT’s district magistrate had written to the CDA, directing it to complete lighting work in seven days.
The civic agency has been directed to ensure proper and uninterrupted street lighting and the installation of flood lights from Insaf Chowk to Imran Khan’s residence, along tracks and in the surrounding vicinity.
In his victory speech, Imran Khan had announced he will not use Prime Minister House as his residence and the concerned authorities had decided to declare a house in Minister’s Enclave, likely the Speaker’s House, as the official residence of the prime minister.
