sory but you are simply not able to grasp the main issue and you are contradicting with yourself! The question you should ask to yourself is Why China have a container ship fleet? & why is the need?
Because China happens to be the largest trading nation in the world. With over 3.5 trillion USD in annual merchandise trade, China needs ships. Most of the global trade is carried out on ships. If China does not own them, it has to hire others. In the end, exports and imports need to continue.
Beside, you can also carry other nations' goods and earn money from the service. Freight business comes with an ecosystem: AI (China has the world's first full AI port), insurance, shipbuilding etc.
Otherwise, how to make money?
historically China had connectivity problem that is why we had silk road or now a huge container ship fleet which Turkey does not in need of because of it close proximty to her economic partners. in this sense asking ''How connected Turkey'' ? is a very silly question to ask.
If it is just geography, how about Greece?
They have a huge container fleet because they are geographically isolated?
China is very close to its economic partners, too.
Our trade with Japan is about 300 billion USD. With Korea, 230 billion USD. With India, over 100 billion USD. With Vietnam, 150 billion USD. With ASEAN, 600 billion USD. They are all China's next door.
Still, you need a fleet even to send stuff to next door Japan.
If you do not have shipping fleets, then you will have trucks, for instance, which is more costly, dirtier, and less efficient.
