Cauvery on fire!!!

The only major advantage in ruling of both treaties and SC judgement is, TN has lot more lands to irrigate than Karnataka does on river Cauvery.

Actually, this was an interim order till 20th Sep & not decided specifically on the merits. More over, Karnataka is not releasing water to irrigate either. The farmers were told as much, drinking water to Bangalore, Mysore & surrounding areas being prioritised. While I'm not absolutely clear on the total amount of water available, drinking water gets precedence over irrigation, every single time.

Long term, the central government has to build desalination plants both in Karnataka & Tamil Nadu & TN should be urged to improved storage so as to not allow water to simply flow into the sea during the period of heavy rains. Some trade off will also have to take place on water intensive cropping, especially in bad years. We also need to seriously look at drip irrigation to prevent this problem from cropping up over & over again.

Hate to say .But TN is always in conflict with neighbouring states when it comes to water issue .
Palaar when it comes to AP
Cauvery when it comes to Karnataka.
MullaPeriyar when it comes to Kerala
the rioting pplz are kannadigas right?

.
That's sadly cos we are downstream states. Kaveri is 760 long river, and only 260 km is in Karnataka. It irrigates lots of areas inside TN. Palaar crosses just 50km inside AP, and they wants to build a dam. Remember Palar runs dry for 10 months a year and its chief water source for Chennai.

Neighbouring states, building huge dams for rivers crossing long distance in TN is unfair to people of TN. Simple as that.

Coming to topic, lawlessness to the level of Bihar in Bangalore is not a good news for it. Bandh culture has been forgotten in TN, Andhra. But Bangalore gets Bandh for this or that. Politicos fanning it is not good for public, in both states.

There is. Cauvery Water tribunal is there. But Karnataka hardly complies with it and goes to SC everytime.

And according to the treaty with Mysore King, KRS is the only reservoir where water can be saved. But Karnataka govt has build new reservoirs adjacent to KRS and diverting water keeping levels in KRS low. Supreme Court took cognizance of the fact and ordered release of water. That's what happened.

This violence is unreasonable. Wherever it might be.

Politicos in TN is also not that better .
And we also see the level of violence during mullaperiyar issue .
Emotions and public intolerance wont give you water .You need to go for egotiations and should have ear to hear others issues
All three neighbouring states always met problems from TN .Whose fault is that ?

the rioting pplz are kannadigas right?

Yup .
What was the TN response when we decide dam in our own land ?

Noone is better in here .

AP issue is not that much, thanks to no major river from AP to TN. But Mullaiperiyar, ask SC. They rapped Kerala more than once for not following verdict. As a major downstream states, TN has some rights.
Same with Cauvery now. Ask SC.

Not that politicos in TN are angels. They need to whip up passions to get vote just like parties did for Kerala and Karnataka.

Yes . But now they cant complain about the emotions of Kannadigas .They also takes same approach that of the Tamils during periyar issue.

Right .
Why should they create problems when we construct a new dam in our own land ?

Politicos in TN is like that in karnataka .Violent approach .
Noone in kerala did that.

. . .
BIHARIS

COMPLETE BANDH !! not even tea STALLS ARE OPEN IN most of bangalore. 2 people killed in police firing .. many injured.
are tea stalls owned by biharis mostly? whats the situation with taxis and panipuri shops on wheel? :)

We should protest for our rights. According to the treaty, the electricity generated is yours and water is ours. Why renege. After lots of experts from IIT, L&T gave thumps up to the dam, Kerala govt wants to lower the height. Why?

Unlike Cauvery, Mullaiperiyar treaty is crystal clear. The dam and its water belongs to TN. We pay taxes for its usage and money for electricity provided.
Kerala wants to build a new dam by destroying the old dam and with a new treaty. Why? To safeguard the interest of those who have built resorts around the reservoir whose will be submerged if the water is filled upto 156 feet?

Unlike this case, Mullaiperiyar was a blatant disregard of agreement signed and Kerala got rapped by SC.

Actually mate, there was a (tamil) student in bangalore who posted negatively about a few kannada movie stars stand regarding cauvery issue and was beaten up by his fans. This was spread as attack on tamils which led to Rameshwaram attack and stone pelting on woodland hotel & Karnataka bank in Tamilnadu & anandha bhavan hotel in karnataka.

Here is a link to toilet papers article.

True reg storage facilities. reg agreement btw unequal powers, if it deems it unfavourable, then karnataka should approach CWT and SC for re-working. The only major advantage in ruling of both treaties and SC judgement is, TN has lot more lands to irrigate than Karnataka does on river Cauvery.

Secondly, what went against Karnataka in judgement is diversion of waters. Since Karnataka is the source, naturally, it will be saving and getting lot of water. Remember SC has also ruled against TN in the past reg Cauvery. I agree that monsoon has not been much, but using this reason for not releasing water is not agreeable. Down south, they are farmers too.

I hope this upsettles people up in north regarding river linking. :hitwall:

forget river linking

and TN should run the desalination plan at its full capacity which is largest in asia but they are running in half capacity. And Install more.

Desalination water can be good for drinking in cities. But for irrigating large lands? Really?

We are surrounded by water from three sides. Massive deslationation plant can add to river volume.

If planned properly all problems can be sorted out.

Keep rivers for irrigation / iduntry and desalitaion plant for household
