Cartridge recovery: 3 Italians detained

Three Italians were detained in Mumbai and Pune this morning after 26 cartridges were found from a room in a five star hotel in the city where they were staying, the police said.

Twenty-four live cartridges and two empty magazines of Italian make were recovered from Room No 448 of Radisson Hotel located near Indira Gandhi International airport by the hotel staff on the evening of May 24.

The trio -- Giovanni Ceccomello, Donato Dngello and Giulion Tometto -- were detained at Pune and Mumbai airports this morning, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

The Italians, working with petrochemical company Petronas, had checked into three rooms in the hotel on May 24 and left after seven hours, he said.

"Cartridges were recovered after hotel staff went inside the rooms for cleaning. They noticed that there was an unusual sound from the air-conditioner. A mechanic found the cartridges in a polythene bag in the AC shaft," Dhaliwal said.

There were 24 live cartridges, two empty magazines and two springs. The magazines were dismantled, he said.

Soon after, the police was informed and a case was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and CCTV footages as well as footages of baggage scanner were checked, a senior police official said.

"From this, we found that similar material was in the laptop bag of the Italians. A look out notice was issued yesterday and they were traced to Mumbai and Pune," the official said on Thursday.

Asked whether there was any oversight on part of the hotel staff, Dhaliwal said it appears so. However, they immediately informed police after the cartridges were detected, he said.

Wonder what these Italians were planning to do with those cartridges!!!

You are speaking as if you don't know Italy's history.

Italians are well known as mafias.

But what's the Italian mafia doing in India? Its not like they can blend in or something, no wonder they were detained so quickly

I wonder where they got the cartridges from. If they managed to sneak them in through the airport we're in serious trouble. If they bought them in India, then our law enforcement agencies need a serious kick in the behind.

. . .
If that was the case you'd find them in Karachi ;)

You know, global terrorist network, Osama, sanctuary etc etc. :D

Not really, there is no evidence that Pakistan is a terrorist sanctuary. Besides, you'd probably find more terrorists in India because unlike other Middle Eastern nations, where terrorism schemes are plotted, India is where the action takes place, if you know what I mean.

2008 Mumbai etc. etc.

Actually yes, you are right. Most terrorism are executed here. but brewed in Pakistan. Do you need more evidence.

Look at all investigations around the world. All arrested or suspected terrorists have visited and trained in Pakistan and So calling it a safe haven is not irrelevant.

Maybe not in China with all the censorship and what not, if you had access to any international news website you'd probably know better. India is indeed where all the action takes place, that makes us the target, not a sanctuary, if you know what I mean.

indian security agencies are sleeping..???
how they got these cartridges in a big city like New Delhi, in the end, indians come up mourning about terrorist attacks by Pakistan, look at your failures damnit..

Then why don't you present to me a piece of evidence? Pakistan being a terrorist nation means that is openly supports terrorism.

You certainly need to go and get some re-education from your communist party my friend. Because going by that logic, there are a lot of terrorists in China too because Xinxiang and Tianamen and Tibet massacares take place there.

Good luck with the re-education.

On the topic: It would be interesting to know what comes out of the investigation. Italians and firearms is nothing new but why would they dump it in the room in the AC vent? For someone else to get a hand on it later? Also specially when the Radisson is so close to the Airports.

Either that or the state has no writ over parts of the country...
