Two things; I have lived in NY so I can visualize the crowd reaction.
But I can never ever get over noobs who want to gawk at a FREAKING CAR BOMB THAT MAY EXPLODE. They're all Darwin candidates if you ask me.
Second, as for the TTP claiming responsibility, these days the Taliban would probably claim responsibility if scientists discovered the presence of alien life in the Milky Way. So I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

"The device, he said, contained explosive elements that included propane tanks, some kind of powder, gasoline and a timing device."
Seems like an amateur attempt, or that they can't get actual material for more powerful explosives and more sophisicated devices.
Can't rule out it was a US native, for example the Oklahoma bombing.

According to the AP, an unidentified speaker on the tape also says the attack comes in response to American "interference and terrorism in Muslim Countries, especially in Pakistan."
The claim could not be immediately confirmed and the tape makes no specific reference to the attack nor does it mention that it was a car bomb or that it took place in New York City.

SITE said the video contained an audio message from Qari Hussein Mehsud, a Tehreek-e-Taliban official, that was played over anti-American images with English subtitles.
The group said the attempted attack was to avenge the killings of Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and Abu Ayub al-Masri, the top two leaders of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, in an air and ground assault last month near the city of Tikrit, SITE said.
It also said it was in revenge for the recent rain of drone attacks in the tribal areas and the abduction, torture and humiliation of our most respected & innocent sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

With Iran taking the propaganda offensive to the United States, a nation increasingly distancing itself from, not only the idea of supporting an Israeli attack on Iran, Israel is under pressure to reestablish itself as America’s partner in a long discredited “war on terror” that has been a huge embarrassment to the US.
With over 90% of America’s terror arrests turning out to be innocent bystanders, some tortured for years, untold numbers “disappeared,” Bush era failures have soured public support for hunting terrorist leaders who have increasingly been either captured by Pakistan or have been found to be negotiating with US forces.
With the signature of this bombing being so close to that of the “crotch bombing,” an attack with Israeli fingerprints from Nigeria to Yemen to Amsterdam, the “superfast” accusation against a Pakistani group was no surprise.

With New York police discounting the Pakistan connection to the bombing immediately, Fox News has unleashed an attack on the Obama administration in a well orchestrated manner, accusing democrats of “failing to protect the American people.”
With both Site Intelligence and Fox News tied directly to Israel and the signature and timing of this attack showing clear Israeli fingerprints, Fox may be right.
America may be unable to protect itself from a nation still seen by most Americans as a close ally. No other nation has the capability of such an attack or the influence to orchestrate the news, an act already in motion.
If any finger is pointing anywhere, Fox News is telling us “Israel did it.”

Recently USA has given several advisories to its citizens not to visit Delhi & Mumbai..citing high chances of terrorist attacks...but they fail to realize that a bomb was planted behind their back..

like it or not, if it was the case in India, than car would have exploded before your security could have find out anything.
