Captive Soldier Appears on Taliban Video

U.S army colonel disowns captured soldier, he contradicts himself by first stating "the facts are not known" and then goes on to state that he is a liar, implies he might have deserted, calls him a collaborator and even goes as far as to say "I don't care how hard it sounds, as far as I'm concerned the Taliban can save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills". In other words I hope they kill him.

All this and at the same time he admits he doesn't know all the facts.

He is a retired Lt. Colonel and does not speak for the military. I think his comments are way out of line. He definitely does not know the facts. Besides, the retired Colonel should worry about his own legal bills when he is sued by the soldier and his family for slander.

ho yeah
Geneva convention rulings
the same Geneva convention rulings Broken by US closest friend Israel’s "Gaza war".
The same ones that savages like these...

Boy, 12, Beheads Man In Al Qaeda Video - CBS News
Amid cries of ‘Allah o Akbar’ (god is great), a young boy, barely 12 years old, lifts his machete and strikes at his victim who is lying on the ground, all tied up for the kill.

Waving a ‘V’ for victory sign with his right hand, the boy picks up the severed head and shows it around to the chants of applause from an audience gathered in a remote part of the region straddling the mountainous range which divides Pakistan and Afghanistan.
...Demanded everyone else to obey but for them to ignore.

He is a retired Lt. Colonel and does not speak for the military.

Oh my bad, I guess that makes it all right then.

I think his comments are way out of line.

Yeah but I bet there a lot that agree with him

He definitely does not know the facts
.

Yes he himself admitted as much, just before he called the prisoner a liar, traitor, deserter, etc etc

Besides, the retired Colonel should worry about his own legal bills when he is sued by the soldier and his family for slander.

Actually I don't think this colonel would have said what he did unless he had some backing from people in high places. They know the prisoner is gonna expose them so they want to demonize him so the nation wont accept what he has to say.

Its all about deceiving joe public, I hope it backfires though and the american public see through the lies, but unfortunately I cant see that happening any time soon.

Just because he was a colonel does not mean, imply or even make him accessable to the real facts.
He does not need backing in high places to make public comment. Also it is his perspective not a government one so he does not have and will not get backing form on high places.

You do not even know what the real facts are so don't try to pretend you have some form of crystal ball insight.

^ You mean USA won't repeat their mistakes or Pashtuns?

The US has credibility...they have a nation to answer...I wouldn't link war crimes with the US..the onus on the americans is to provide for a smooth transition of military power to the afghan army...and till the time they are not sure about the competence and strength in numbers of the afghan army...they'd hold the post...in simpler words...it is imperative for the americans to play an important role in setting up of the democratic machinery of Afghanistan...politically much has been achieved...but that is not going to hold mullah omar and his band of fanatics...the slow effervescence of democracy/education into the afghan life accompanied by a good modern standing afghan army of the people would ensure stability...and the world would hold the US accountable for the eventual outcome...I think they won't take chances.

Exclusive: Missing U.S. Soldier May Be in Pakistan

Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl Kidnapped by Taliban in Afghanistan
By MATTHEW COLE
July 20, 2009

The U.S. soldier kidnapped by Taliban forces in Afghanistan may have been taken across the border to Pakistan, complicating efforts to obtain his release, according to two people involved in U.S. and Afghan military efforts to locate him, and three Afghan soldiers captured with him.

The soldier, Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl, 23, of Idaho, is the first serviceman captured since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. According to a person actively involved in the search, a top Afghan insurgent commander has taken credit for capturing the soldier and has now moved the soldier to South Waziristan, Pakistan. U.S. armed forces are not permitted to operate inside Pakistan except under extreme circumstances.

The insurgent leader, Mullah Sangeen, has reportedly demanded the U.S. halt air raids as a condition for the return of the soldier.

While I do not lean on the side of conspiracy theory, but it really makes me wonder why would an American soldier be brought over to the tribal areas? This is like asking for the US to come charging into the tribal areas. Not sure what to make of this report at this time. Why could this demand not be made by those inside of Afghanistan? Why is there a need to bring this soldier over to the tribal areas (I doubt the veracity of this report)?

Taliban should soften him up and use enhanced interrogation to extract information that may save more Afghan civilians lives.

Guys, the Colonel may have a valid point - but his presentation sucked. While some points abouts this may be unknown, in speaking with Defense professionals, here is what I do know.

He was manning a guard post. He propped his weapon in the corner of his guard tower, left his body armor at his post...and walked away. He left his position unguarded.

If so, he was endangering his base, his unit, and his comrades-in-arms. Perhaps he did not realize what he signed up for. Too bad. While we would spend a lot of time looking for him, I doubt if we will give in to the Talibunny's demands. In which case he may end up dead.

If we do manage to get him back, betcha he will have to answer to a Military tribunal. Desertions are not looked upon too kindly by the US Army.
