Capitulation to Naxals

Yes, I am from a state which is infested with maoists. No it is not exactly ultra liberal articles in US/UK newspapers that framed my view. My views are based on debates and discussions in Indian media. Also I have seen enough exploitation of adivasis to realize their anger. Maoists draw sustenance from the anger of ordinary people in backward areas.

Maoists can do a lot more damage to civilians if they wanted to. But that will be suicidal for them, as they have popular support now. Most death and destructions are directed towards combatants and their accomplice.

As I said, a terrorist is somebody who tries to harm a person who is not directly involved in the conflict, to put pressure on the opposing side.
Maoists have not done that, for obvious reason.

I lost hope for a communist revolution in India. India's ethnic diversity makes it structurally weaker but also makes united revolutions more difficult. Unfortunately or fortunately, however you look at it, the Maoists will likely not win the future conflict against the center.

They may not win, and India may not ever be communist country. But at least a large population in India who are poor, and could not take part in India's prosperity and democracy will no longer be ignored.

Agreed. The Maoists, while their chances of winning are low, will still be an important force in Indian politics. However under the current Gandhi regime, they will continue using force to suppress any anti-business and anti-government actions by the poor.

Well, actually, the current regime is more sympathetic to maoist cause than others. BJP has much more hardline approach.
And maoists are not helping themselves either. They can negotiate, abjure violence and push for political and economic rights of adivasis, like Mayawati did for dalits.

Very interesting, we have anecdotal evidence of the Naxal support, but as you are from a state with significant presence of Naxals - what is your estimate about the number of people as a percentage that support them, thank you in advance. :)

Isn't Mayawati the one with a necklace made up of rupees and is one of the most corrupt politicians in India?

I have no idea, as my post says my views are based on debates and discussions in Indian media. Some people support maoists and most people oppose them. But there is almost an unanimous view that adivasis do not have proper rights and are exploited easily.
I am not maoist sympathizer, I was just opposing the view that they are terrorists.

she considers herself superior to all others and is called lady hitler for her arrogance and foolishness and is extremely self-centered!!she spends more money on constructing statues of herself rather than spending it for the needy.and most of her party members are millionaires!!!

And how is the Anganwadi worker who was killed last week involved in the conflict. From what I could gather, the Collector that they had kidnapped was a good man (an IIT alumnus btw, who could have worked in other lucrative high paying jobs, but chose to work for the betterment of the underdeveloped Adiwasi interior). What is your justification for putting a young dedicated worker like him and his families through that kind of ordeal?

There is no disputes that the Adiwasis were neglected in the development chain, just like the other areas like Assam & other north-eastern states. Heck their own people like Shibu Soren and company didn't spare to deprive them and loot the funds meant for them. But the method they are employing qualifies them as a terrorist organization in every definition. Whether you like it or not.

Not sure about anganwadi guy, can you give a link to the news. About the collector, he seemed to be popular there. Maoists used him to negotiate. As I said, kidnapping is not terrorism.
Maoists till now have been brutal, I would agree. But that brutality is targeted, mostly towards combatants and their allies. You will not find maoists lobbing grenade and shooting indiscriminately in a town or city. And the reason is obvious. They don't want to lose public support. In case of terrorists, they consider ordinary public as part of the opposite party(or at least not their ally)

I must apologise about the NREGA guy. On a closer look, it appears as if he was killed by some other corrupt officials as he helped blew off the lid from their corruption with the scheme. although there were few reports of maoist killing him, I now think, it was a cover up of these bloody corrupted Babus with help of Jharkhand police. What a shame..

MGNREGA activist who exposed many cases of corruption found dead

10 days after he exposed fraud, Jean Dreze aide killed

The cover up stories:

Maoists kill job plan activist

Maoists kill job plan activist

Sometimes I am so ashamed for having to continue tolerating these corrupted mofos @#$%!!

Sometimes, some paid news channel publish anything that comes in their hand. I agree maoists are brutal, but people should not tell lies about them.
Do we have to spread the rumor that Kasab was a rapist in pakistan to prove his guilt.
