If we wanted to we could troll Russia 365 days a year here since there are endless
bad stories....but we have better things to do than to highlight a country's bad sides. If senheiser wants to play that game..well we can start posting a few until he calms down.

True that. Personally, any time I see threads like this, "America is actually a terrible place, America's days are over, etc.", I always wonder if the poster has any idea how desperate they sound.

Even non-citizens are eligible for welfare and public housing.
In my state I believe it is $400/month. If they give you free housing (as in a 400sq ft apartment with free heat, free electricity, free water) they take 1/3 of that money. So you are left with $264. You live pretty well.

No. One must economically qualify and the vast majority of people on welfare are single mothers with young children. There is all kinds of housing assistance for them. Just as the majority of actual homeless are single men who are alcohol or drug dependent and/or suffer from mental illness. (And much of the homeless problem is the result of the courts no longer mandating commitment to mental hospitals for those suffering such illness, beginning in the 1970's.). There are almost always shelters or other housing options for the homeless as well, but most don't stay long because they all involve mandatory addiction treatment. It's sad that so many are not ready to get help, but that is unfortunately the way it is. Almost every church, synagogue, as well as mosques, temples, etc., in America, also does allot of work in helping the poor and the homeless. Mine does, but addiction and/or mental illness, is very difficult to treat.

i have seen wonderful contributions from taishang... among all the chinese members he is the closest to leftism and does not use sarcasm and callous statements quite unlike the tta 'chinese dragon'.

the father of a former aquaintance is a former senior scientist of the indian government... the father and i discuss things occasionally and he told me of his last visit to usa ( to meet his son )... he was talking about the old age homes there and was quite appreciative.

usa has many wonderful things but the element of wall street and white house creates problems... if the suggestions/demands of the progressive movements in usa ( like 'occupy' ) are accepted, usa would be a even better place, with drastically lessened crime, aggression, no consumerism and external peaceful relations.

We take care of people pretty well. One unfortunate problem is people with not much tend to flock to nice weather areas and thus completely overwhelm that area's local services. So the city ends up looking like the bad guy because they can't accommodate them all. Meanwhile in other areas the public housing is probably half full.

Well it all depends upon how much money you have. If you have money they are going to make sure you don't get a completely free deal in that old age home (you'll pay). If you have no money...you get a nice free deal.

Plus there are public free shelters for homeless people. The problem is many homeless are loners and don't want to be around other people so they choose to go it alone on the street. This just isn't acceptable and encouraging people to do this is counterproductive.
