INDIA: A cancer patient who underwent chemotherapy just three days ago was mercilessly beaten by some men in Howrah's Belur on Sunday night. His 'offence' was that the tyre of his bike accidentally touched one of the youths while he was parking it after returning home from work.
The victim, 35-year-old Sheikh Miraz, has been admitted to a private hospital with four blood clots in his head. The rowdies smashed soft drink bottles on his head as he lay helpless on the street. The barbaric attack was caught on CCTV camera. The youths allegedly accused him of carrying an infectious disease and warned him to leave the locality. Police nabbed the key accused and are looking for a fugitive.
A Belur police officer said: "We have arrested Ramesh Giri, the prime accused in the attack on Miraz. He has been charged with attempt to murder. Another youth Akash Singh, named in the complaint by Miraz's family, has been detained for interrogation."
