SIALKOT – A Canadian woman has approached Punjab police to seek action against a man from Sialkot who befriended her on social media before being defrauded by him.

Anne Marie recently landed in Punjab’s city of Sialkot to seek justice as she claims a man, unnamed yet, befriended her on social media and then asked for $32,000 business investment which she sent online.

Now the woman, who says she won’t return without getting justice, wants to bring the ‘lover’ to book.

However, she’s not receiving any support from the authorities concerned.

It feels like everyone in Pakistan is either trying to rip you off or kill you, I just came back from Karachi and for the couple of weeks that i was there i felt, stressed, unsafe and unhealthy. Its getting out of control. I am quite frankly feeling embraced to call myself Pakistani and i never in my life ever thought that i will ever feel like that.

She must be rich and stupid or just stupid. If she really wants to catch the culprit then bribe the police.

Bro it's the families that usually rip u off. I live here now and Pakistan is amazing. You mind your own business no one bothers you. You become a local chumcha then you get treated like one

I have been here 4 years. Alhamdulillah I don't deal with police as I don't have issues. When stopped in traffic I am extremely polite and they have been totally respectful. Shopkeepers are the same when they start I always remind them cheat me and Allah will ensure they will lose. Yes many rotten apples in society but many good people too like everywhere. We expect more as Muslims from ourselves and feel ashamed when we don't see that. Inshallah it's not that bad

I agree with snow lake, while there may be people out there to rip you off, there are those who would go out of their way to help you. You just have to be intelligent and knowledgeable about the rules and regulations as well as which positions hold what authority.

I would say this poor lady brought it upon herself, Pakistani men are really good with their words...like i said, we just have to be intelligent and she unfortunately wasn't. Blinded by the prospect of true love I guess
