Canadian PM draws Indian ire by wishing ‘Diwali Mubarak’

ppl making big deal out of nothing. He meant to convey diwali wishes and nothing more. In a multicultural environ ppl do tend borrow words or use words known to them. For example there will lot of words for god but the meaning/understanding is still the same.
At a technical level if an arab had said that it would not have garnered much attention.

ppl who expect exact words or impose stricter meanings are such scaring away friendly ppl who want to share & know more about your culture.

Trudeau and others wont be scared away by this (on interaction/connection/integration front), rather he probably just remembers it for next time and give a better perceived greeting. Its really a non-issue. Ivanka trump also gave a "Saal Mubarak" greeting given Gujarati use of it (was she targetted because of it? because of mubarak word?)....so what if Trudeau used some portmanteau?

His interaction with Indian/Hindu community has been strong and firm culturally. Also largely bipartisan thing.

He must correct a lot of his other administration performance and be open and responsive to the real criticism coming to him on various issues. He has been quite lacking in those departments....because he is not really a leadership material imho. That has no bearing on his cultural outreach, he is genuine guy on that front (ok its good for politics too of course, but that goes for everyone).
