Can You Solve this 6th Grade Geometry Problem From China?

The idea should be not be solving the tougher questions but developing better understanding of mathematics and geometry. In India and Pakistan, the public education system is inherited from the colonial times so the emphasis is on cramming instead of understanding.
Outcomes are judged by their performances....
High-IQ and high-PISA people are selected.

. .
Good catch. that is why one should never take any thing, even apparently simple things lightly.

Whenever people say very simple they make a simple mistake
the radius of circle is r = 5 units
10 is the diameter :enjoy:  if you use r =10 the area of the red spot will be negative (-57.07963267948966)

So what did he/she do during that time...call his/her friends or take a tea break?

. .
Easy....got this one in exam, celebrate!

6th grade students are already very smart....Such math problem is an insult to their PISA number.

Try 12th grade.

this problem would devastate North American college students. Chinese, Japanese, Koreans typically sixth graders are so smart in math. East Asia for the win.
