The question as to what is the "best" form of government has been with us as long as there has been writing (see Plato). History teaches that human nature seems to favor authoritarianism over "democracies". So China's system of dictatorship by a "Party" elite may well come to dominate in the "West" within the next century, because of human nature (especially the 7 deadly sins of greed, sloth, envy, pride, lust, gluttony and wrath). Asia's culture in general is much older than Europe and Americas and is not very receptive to the concept of self-organisation. Most people are not self-organised in Asia by nature (Japan is an exception).

To address this issue, Asian countries have always needed a stronger institution above the people and masses to ensure compliance, conformity and have a resemblance of an organised system (call it a kingdom, city, state, whatever).

You would be under tremendously wrong beliefs to assume that US does not have any non-democratic restrictions on people. It is simply referred to as 'law' there. As a common voter, have you ever wondered how come senators or ministers (in parliamentary democracies) got elected despite going against the sentiments of the common man more often than desirable?

Because it is never about which vote counts but who counts the votes. And that depends on a lot of factors. Elitism is one such factor.

China and even my country India have never been democracies historically. Chinese had a unique system of emperors and so did we. In ancient days, rulers of both India and China did not have a free run to do what they wanted like Kim Jong Un. They were more often than not, honour bound by codes of honour deeply embedded in our faiths, cultures and philosophies.

Look at what western style democracy is doing to India; we are bordering anarchy under this system. China has a bit too excessive controls but they have managed to succeed in their governance model.

Anyway, in a real democracy, not the one in sissyland, the government is accountable to the people who elect them and this means a lot of things which are good for the rights of the individuals. As Indians, it is important for us to start seeing end objectives of our nation and various endeavours rather than flimsy ceremonialism, unrealistic expectation and wanting to have everything and yet give up nothing.

@Tshering22, you are one of the few Indians who have an objective view on this. Unfortunately most of your fellow countrymen do not see it that way and they will not agree with you. Good luck convincing them.

Of course we are not all good ourselves. China has been behind for too long, to make progress many things have to be sacrificed including certain degree of individual freedom. We are far from perfect, we are aware of it and we are improving little by little. We are a big country, things don't change over night. The Soviet Unions tried too hard and they collapsed. The Arab spring was nothing but a disaster which turned people's good wills into massive death and destruction. India has been given the democracy opium for decades. Under the delusion of "freedom", all is good. High illiteracy? We are democracy. Bad pollution? We're a democracy. Corruption? We're a democracy. Today is always bad, but there is always another leader to elect, there is always tomorrow.

I don't know any Chinese is "forced" to watch movies of Chinese president, neither have I heard people got arrested for not watching president movie. So yes, you are brainwashed.
