Many European leaders have long pushed for a bigger military role. One that is independent of the US-led NATO alliance. The need for this increased military capability was recently made clear, during the chaotic evacuations from Kabul airport. European nations had to rely almost entirely on the United States. European Commission president Ursula Von Der Leyen says the bloc needs the political will to stand on its own. She says the EU should be able to deploy a military force without relying on the US or NATO. But what is holding it back from achieving this goal?

Presenter: Nastasya Tay

Guests: Theresa Fallon - Director of Centre for Russia Europe Asia Studies.

David DesRoches - Associate Professor at National Defense University.

Nicholas Whyte - International Affairs Strategist.

That guy speaking about his 4 year old son who said he wanted to grow a beard was hilarious and sums up this whole talk in short. The EU already has an Army it is called NATO

Europeans especially the western Europe has always been historically cursed with greed and that's why they aren't even willing to pay for their own security. Their greed and urge for personal gains was one of the top reasons why their notorious crusades campaigns failed to gain popularity within their own population. They don't know the meaning of sacrifice and help the others selflessly for a greater divine cause.

Only Turkey as of now is acting as a sturdy lid of the pressure cooker of middle east and Asia safeguarding them from the consequences of the mess the same EU created in those areas.

Their forces main goal in defensive posture has always been to at least hold some parts of EU when the US would come to aid them against massive Russian military forces. Recently they put up an exercise to mobilize their combined forces to the Eastern Europe and do live firing exercises there but they failed miserably to mobilize and coordinate the operation effectively.

Those EU countries have always been reducing the numbers of crucial assets like number of tanks and military personnel and budget cuts. And in turn blackmailing US to spend for their defense and deploy massive amounts of US military in EU for their defense instead.

Japan has timely recognized the need to develop its own capable military forces as they are sensing the fact that US might not be there to help them out decisively in the future conflicts. What if US collapses or shrinks to its own borders like what European colonial powers did post WW2! EU would be at the mercy of its neighboring countries or would collapse too. You might be able to buy massive amounts of weapons by throwing money all around the globe but you can't train pilots, military officers, battle hardened military overnight. US military might is relatively on the decline and they are pulling out of the role of so called global "policeman" or more accurately described as global thug.

History tells us that none of the rich men survived without backing up their wealth and riches by a massive firepower or a person with massive firepower willing to protect them. The current situation of Arabs is a prime example. All the Arab nations are held hostage by some militarily powerful countries for their national security. Heck even they prefer to sit in the lap of their nemesis, the most cunning enemy Israel in order to just feel fake sense of security. Those are the same Arabs who once slain both the super powers of their time simultaneously, the Eastern Roman Empire and the Persians. Now with all possible wealth in their pockets, they are openly taunted by the US President that those Rich Arab Governments won't hold for more than a month if the US plugs out their support.

On the other hand poor begging country like Pakistan can still somewhat push global powers to serve its agenda just due to the military capability it holds. So they are forced to bail out and feed that poor but powerful warrior in order to keep it from getting rogue.

It clearly explains that a powerful muscle with less than half filled belly is a lot more better than overfed chubby dude with no muscles at all.

Russia is currently struggling to arm its military because they don't have enough resources to mass produce the very weapons they developed themselves. That's why they actively seek export orders to get their factories setup for mass production of their newest weapon systems. Their pilots severely lack in the full spectrum training and suffering from dwindling flying hours. But still they are powerful enough at global level that they hold meetings with the dozens of nations combined NATO alliance at equal terms. Because the bear knows that apart from US, most of the NATO members still fear from the weakened bear and are no match in firepower to him.

If the EU can defend themselves without the need for U.S., I'm okay with it. Just don't want to see it fall quickly to the enemy if there is possible war. Don't want a repeat. U.S. pull troops out of Vietnam, it falls quickly, U.S. pulls out of Iraq, it nearly falls til U.S. sent forces back in against ISIS, U.S. pulls out of Afghanistan, it falls quickly. South Korea didn't fall since U.S. still has troops in there.

They need to drop stigma associated with german nationalism and allow Germany to militarize themselve to their max potential, then Germany could rival other big global powers alone without EU

The EU likes to talk big but when push comes to shove - they refuse to pay out of their own wallets for their over inflated egos and their large mouths when it comes to defence.

I do think that the USA will slowly pull back from mainland Europe's defence and finally force all these EU loadmouths to pick up the slack and pay for their own security. NATO's purpose was to protect against Russia, but it has been American tax payers who have being doing all of the paying. USA would still prefer NATO was that construct but this time it is EU wallets for EU defense ...

Hopefully, the UK does not get involved in what ever security nonsense they want to build for themselves - our future is not getting tied and bogged down with EU bullshit anymore and that is the message that was given to the Dutch PM 2 days go when he came as a messenger for EUs next half baked dream ..

( it does seem like we told the EU to take a hike ! ),

Anna Comnena mentioned that about the Crusaders of the First Crusade:

"For,as I remarked above, the Latin race is always very fond of money, but more especially when it is bent on raiding a country ; it then loses its reason and gets beyond control."

"Not only for this reason, but also because he realized the unstable and faithless nature of these men who were easily swayed in opposite directions like the Euripus, and were often ready because of their covetousness to sell their wives and children for a penny-piece; for these reasons the Emperor held back from the enterprise at that time."

NATO is like 99% USA and 1% everyone else. Now that the US is not carrying the burden of NATO the Europeans need an alternative.

Of course Europe can defend itself. Europe is not some banana republic. Europe has one of the best military technologies in the world. Europe has enough money and enough manpower. The only weakpoint of Europe is corrupted management mostly from globalist pseudo-socialist Soros organisations.

The very reason of all those demise after US pulling out of various places is: they gave Government to handpicked corrupt monkeys there who were in minority, cut off from general public and didn't have any stake within their nation whatsoever. The puppet regimes do tend to fall when the master quits and abondones them.

At first this idea seems to be really nice but in reality it's the perfect recipe to fail. History has proven time and agaim that technology and weaponry has secondary importance when it comes to fighting the war. The brilliance of tactical minds and well trained battle hardened professional force ready to pay whatever sacrifices it takes to accomplish their objectives are of the prime importance.

For example a veteran pilot or battle hardened well trained soldier can't be produced overnight whatsoever. But surely with massive industrial capacity one can churn out hundreds of tanks, planes etc at any given moment. Just technology demonstration, and some corporate employed dudes never gonna win a war for their nation.

Technology+Economy +random manpower = High tech Well paid Cannon fodder
