So I'm starting from Mughal empire. They are Mongolians right? Was Timur ever ruler of India or Persia?

But there's the main thing I know how the the English including Wellington defeated the Mysore, BTW is that a separate people/state? Then went on to defeat the Marathas, so here's the question, did he engage the Mughals? I'm thinking that they are still there at that time and who are the Marathas, I read that they are true Indians, are they like unconquered Indians? Rebellious Indians? Or Indians who served under Mughal empire and got a title?

So after the defeat of Marathas I think there are still some left, did India get fully colonized or partially? Or fully, but border areas are pretty much autonomous in reality? Where is the Mughal empire in all of this?

Just a heads up, this is just asking some questions as I am trying to be more and more knowledgeable in world history. I would read, but I want a general outline of how things went down so that I know where to start.

That and I just don't trust Chinese translation or any translation and English sources, since they may be a tad biased.

Why you think english sources will be unbiased when they were also invaders?

I said I don't trust English cause they might be biased. I'm not sure how that could be misunderstood?

Anyway, History regarding sub-continent is full of biasness, you have read multiple sources and draw your own conclusion.

Taimur never ruled India, he sacked Delhi. Mughal Empire was at the peak during Aurangzeb's rule in 1707 from Kabul to most of Tamil Nadu. After the death of Aurangzeb many governors of Mughal declared themselves independent but the new force Maratha appeared, controlled most of India even Delhi fell to them and Mughal were rulers of India just in name. Marathas got defeated by Afghan ruler Ahmed Shah abdali in the third battle of Panipat which weakened Maratha but Maratha confedary continued to expand, they controlled most of India before British take over. Sikh rose in Punjab under Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

British only controlled 2/3 of India, remaining 1/3 was ruled by princes under British authority which total about 562 princely states. Their policy was making newly independent governors of Mughal or Marathas fight each other by supplying weapons and either one of them accept British authority or heirless state was annexed by British. They started their conquest around three cities - Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. Bengal was first to fall to British.

After independence, it was only by the end of 1948 that all princely states consolidated into Indian Union.

Mughals were Mongols who spoke Chughtai Turkish but later on shifted to Persian language, they later on intermarried with Indians and Persians.
