Houshanghai is right, it is nothing more than a J-11. I went to GE few minutes ago, check out what I found. And, it is no psed.

And on the same SAC airfield, there is a groups of new J-11s, see any similarities between the "mysterious jet" and these J-11s?

But would it make sense to put a half finished airframe out of assembly into open airfield....?

Not necessary a half finished airframe. J-11's engines are not painted thus they looked like dark spots on the left and right side of the tail, you can check the photo carefully again. Also check my GE photo for tails of the white J-11s on post #33.

my analysis:

sinle motor (probably with thrust vectoring for replacement tail effect), non tail or revers microtail under the plane (or movable back body), changeble agle wings (like f-14, mig-23, su-24...), arrow shape design for speed. no visible weapon on plane or plane shadow. this must be experimental. if this photo is real...
