Can Singaporeans Speak Chinese?

Peranakan were dogs of the British and they wanted nothing to do with Chinese initially. The less Chinese-ness they had, the faster they move up the social ladder.

These are shameless piece of shyt that even British despise them.

They already have many wake up calls. During the Japanese occupation they beg Japanese for mercy arguing they are not Chinese. But Japanese massacre them like dog.

These stupid people never imagined their destiny is bundled with China, and not white man.

Up till now some are still sleeping.

The Peranakan were weak and corrupt, still wishing to hang on their identity and acts like Singapore Brahmin, not knowing they are on their way to shyt hole. Then Lee Kuan Yew came and ask them to take on Chinese avatar.

These neo-Chinese speak English like nobody, still giving people an image Singaporean Chinese speak no Chinese languages.

In fact even now, most Singaporean Chinese speaks at least 2 Sinitic lects, Mandarin, Hokkien or Cantonese.

Deep down Chinese Singaporeans look down on Peranakan.

The Peranakans I know are nothing like what you say. I know one from Kelantan that speaks hokkien and another from Malacca. They are more like Chinese, talk like mainstream Chinese, mix with Chinese and both married main stream Chinese.

Different between mainstream Chineses and Peranakans are just that their ancestors settled here long ago. Some may have Malay blood but even I know mainstream Chinese that have married Malay too.

The Kelantan Peranakan behave differently from the rest, speaking a Hokkien-Malay Creole. They are a tiny and unimportant community.

That was one of many original form of Peranakan, until British/Dutch came and elevated them.

Also modern Peranakan already pick up Mandarin from schools.

Are you sure in your whole life you met no Anglicized Peranakan when you stay in Malaysia?

Even if you have not met them, you must have seen them but as those MCA datuks in TV (while they put on a Chinese avatar).

The original Peranakan speak a Malay Chinese creole, and remain so unless one of the forefathers walks into the school ran by colonizers.

There were many English schools in Singapore, so there were many Anglicized Peranakan there. That was in the past.

Peranakan today learned Mandarin from schools. They learned Hokkien or Cantonese from market.
