LTTE women unit took on IPKF (90,000 strong)

Malathi (also credited as Malathy) is the first female fighter of the Tamil Tigers to die in combat, hence revered as the first female martyr. Her death anniversary is commemorated as Women's Awakening day. Her death is significant as later females joined the Tamil Tigers at all levels and played significant roles (including the Black Tigers). On 10 October 1987, Malathi was injured in combat when an LTTE women unit, which she was leading, was confronted by the IPKF near Navatkuli-Kopay Road in Kopay near Jaffna. Although clearly outnumbered by the IPKF soldiers with superior firepower, her team still successfully blocked and retaliated the IPKF and forced the IPKF to withdraw. In the battle, she was bleeding profusely and rendered immobile when her fellow fighter soldier girls rescued her. Malathi, realizing the grave situation, wanted the girls to leave her and go on with the fight, and then took her cyanide capsule to avoid being captured. Tamil Tigers called one of their brigades the Malathi Brigade in honour of her and built a memorial for her in Kilinochchi which was opened on October 10, 2004.

I had quick scan of the comment section Times of India and boy is the comment section not going crazy. I find the Indian's continously pick, point, poke Pakistani's by reminding us of our ethnic divisions but they entirely overlook the gaping, gasping differances within their own country. A Pakhtun, a Sindhi, a Punjabi, a Baloch actually have greater convergences and share the same geographic space [broadly the Indus Basin] then all the patchwork of peoples that Britain stitched together which went on to become india in 1947. There is nothing wrong with what Sidhu said. I have always said that Indian Punjab is very much part of the Indus Basin. The border between Pak and India is natural as it begins in the marshes, salt pans of the Kutch and then moves north through the Thar Desert. Only when it reaches Punjab is their a un-natural line. Of all the Indian's, Sikhs are the most Pakistani looking people. I have associated with many Sikhs in UK and deespite a strong historical rivalry there is much respect at the same time - kind of like between Germans/English.
