But the next 118 aircraft, which must be assembled in HAL, would be clouded by uncertainty, given HAL’s poor production ethos and track record. Recent delays in HAL’s production of the BAE Systems trainer, the Hawk, support Dassault’s contention.

Dassault is arguing for doing much of the production and integration at a facility that it will set up in partnership with Reliance, which it partnered a year ago. Negotiations continue, with Dassault contending that it cannot be responsible for delivery if the aircraft were to be manufactured on a HAL line; while the MoD insists that the Dassault-Reliance venture can build components, sub-systems and systems, but the integration must be done at HAL.

Broadsword: Rafale's July take-off

2) There is something serious with either HAL or IAF.They have been delaying Tejas even.
I dont know what IAF wanted from HAL.There is continue delay in tejas and these morons talking about Amca bla bla ..

3) Shouldn't we increase orders from dassault who can be directly imported from them?
otherwise we will keep importing them till 2030 and they are talking for another 63.

what say?

It will be fine- the article focuses on the negatives but omits the precedent set by the MKI , which has a similar history with HAL wrt the way the MKI was initially delivered off the shelf than was gradually produced by HAL, which is now being produced at the respectable rate of 20-24 MKIs per year.

Since the intial hiccups with the Hawk has there been news of subsequent issues with the Hawk and HAL? No! And most of the issues were because of BAE and their reluctance to give certain jigs and plans- they paid a penalty fine from the GoI IIRC over this issue.

I have a lot of time for Mr Shukla but he has his moments where he is less than accurate. He is still probably of the mind the IAF should scrap the whole thing and go for the F-35! Take it all with a pinch of salt!

HAL aren't idiots- they learn from their mistakes. They are investing HUGE amounts in dedicated infrastructure for the MMRCA.

that is the problem. If we do not want to develop at lease build the Industry to manufacture any design flawlessly.

Delay in LSP and TD was from ADA, not HAL, HAL is just contractor like many others for LCA. delay in SP will be from HAL after setting up of production line is setup. IJT and LCH is HAL's baby and they are to be blamed for delays

Why in the world you display a trainer aircraft that represents -- if nothing else -- India's complete inability to build even a basic airplane for its armed forces. It occured to me then that that is probably precisely why the IAF has the PC-7 on the flightline. As a mocking jibe, perhaps, at HAL which will unveil a mockup (see photo) of its all-but-dead HTT-40 basic trainer concept.
