Cameron wants 'new special relationship' with India

What kind of an Indian are you? Your country's majority is of Hindu religion. When measuring a country by its origins, always its ancestry is taken into notice.

Your country's trademark and ancestry points towards Hinduism. Why are you ashamed of it? You should be happy that he's respecting the ancient tradition of your country.

You are a strange Indian!

yes i know what u are trying to say but We indians believe that present India is a Democracy and not ruled by a hindu king so thats y the dude posted like that i certainly agree with him perhaps u need a visit to the modern indian and stay in india for some time to know about the indian mentality ......... i dont blame u man

.
What kind of an Indian are you?

The kind a lot us of want to be. Blind to religion !

Your country's majority is of Hindu religion.

Yeah and inspite of the fact that the country was partitioned on religious grounds chose secularism over religion and if it's all the same to you, we would like to keep it that way.

History does not begin at the point of your choosing nor does it end where you want it to. Buddhism & Jainism have been around from the 6th century B.C. Judaism & Christianity have been around in India for 2000 years. Islam & Zoroastrianism for about a 1000 years and even though Sikhism for a shorter period, it has had a huge impact on India's history. We like to think of ourselves as heirs to all these and not limit ourselves to only one which is an ideology that our independence leaders rejected while opting for secularism.

You also need to remember that in this predominantly Hindu country, the only two kings whose names are appended with the words " the Great" are Asoka & Akbar who were Buddhist & Muslim respectively. It would be petty to discard all that was non-Hindu.

You should be happy that he's respecting the ancient tradition of your country.

Fair enough though I suspect that gogbot was just asking that he respect all the traditions of India.

You are a strange Indian!

Nope, just an enlightened one !

Ur post is funny one but right on target man. I think our friend here has taken that comment a bit seriously. however there is nothing wrong in that.
Regards

I am insulted, he only speaks of Hindu's .

This is BJP pandering.
India should not be represent by Hinduism alone.
You take all its people.

what about India muslims
Jains
and sikhs and so on

his generalised comments on Hinduism , are the same as saying all Muslims are terrorists.
except this is a positive connotation as opposed to a negative one.

I hope this man will not be PM.
I don't like his statements , or what he was attempting to do with them

Calm down dude, calm down to be frank no country in this world is secular every country has always been close to its roots.
Heck even USA is not secular they have cristian symbols and jesus as their state princples.

From my own understanding it is highly impossible to wipe off religion from politics, but what is important is to wipe off fundamentalisic ideology of religion from politics,so if some one relates india to hinduism i donot have a problem,Y dont u think USA is a cristian principled country??

The fact that a cristian lady has to break a coconut in hindu traditions with sanskrit vedic chantings highlights how close india is to hinduism and i have no problems with this fact when i think of how we as a majotiry hindu country have been successfull to avoid fundamentalistic principles from our politics when compared to bangladesh, pakistan middle east etc etc..

I again stress no country in this planet is secular even the strongest communists (china ) favours Han buddhists as seen in xingiang..

plz donot wash ur dirty lenin in public.

.
If Cameron had talked about positive contribution of Muslims, nobody would have had any problem.

Some people are just hyper-allergic to any positive mention of Sanatan Dharma.

.
No need to get too serious about this, he is just a politician and he is correct, Hindus are low key and hardworking.

They are likeable people and remain controlled, but not the stupid white wannabe ones who hate anything to do with India and act all white.

We call em BBC (British Born Confused).

.
I don't understand today's so called secularism.
If someone praises hindus that doesn't meand he gave galee to other religion.
It is highly possible that he gave his speech at hindu religious gathering. why anyone should have problem with that?

When Mr. Manmohan Singh says that 'Desh ki sampatti par pehla adhikar musalmano ka he' , where were these so called secularist and our currupt media?

I don't see anything wrong in his statement.

Hindus have work very hard to earn this reputation.

PS: Although, in general I do agree that politicians should not recognize religious identities of any kind.

Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, give unto God that which is God's.

I guess you didn't quite pick up the logic, he shouldn't have spoken it in an Indian context, when talking about Hindus. I think the thread name is misleading in that sense.

.
I am an atheist.

My nations may have an Hindu majority , but that is only a statistic , religion has not place in politics.I feel very strongly about that.

I know my ancestry very well.
and it consists of more then Hinduism. it is only a religion, I respect people and their actions. religion is just as important as a post code to me.

And for you information.

India also created Bhuddism , Janism and Sikhs

and was one of the most powerful Islamic empire for a period of its time.A period of time when Hindu , Muslim Secularism existed, under Akbar. The first man to ever question one religions right to claim the absolute truth over the other.

You clearly don't know Indian history , as you pretend as if it only consists of Hinduism.

Our trade mark has always been secularism, science and wealth.

The reason India has so many different cultures and religions is because of its secularism.

The reason why Indian astronomy has always been ahead of it time in Ancient India(doing in one golden era , what Europe took 100's of years to see, That they earth was not the centre of the universe, we never put religious shackles on our thinkers). why in ancient India it was the world leader in metallurgy(see iron pillar for example). And why today India's flag is on the moon , to rest their for decades, after successfully being part on the discovery of Water on the moon. Is all because of its science

The Reason why the Muslims came to India , Why the British came to India. They all came to achieve power, wealth and glory . and they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. who ever has held the sub-continent , has always been one of the most power people the world. Why today India is the 2nd fastest growing economy. and a rising military and political power. Is all because of it wealth

Clearly i have not shortage of National pride or identity

I have perspective.

I am just an informed Indian.
One of many
I don't care about your history under later centuries as it means little to me. The point is about your embarrassment in being called a Hindu. This is indeed short-sighted and liberal-wannabe sign. What is more surprising is a European here is to tell you this!

Read the comment that follows yours. This might perhaps broaden your perspective.

You have your opinion, I have mine.

PS: I am sure that as an Indian national you might be aware that the other faiths that you mentioned especially Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism share core values and concepts as mainstream Hinduism. Are you not? Don't be surprised. Switzerland has a small Sikh population and they have been very respectful towards acquainting us with the concept of how similar Indian branches of one faith are.

Do you think I am making up my own stories? I speak what I am told by observant Sikhs. Anyhow, its your country, your culture how does it matter to me what you treat both like. All I can say is that all the best for your future.

But please, be reminded that there are non-Indian Hindus too worldwide and they also have sentiments of faith. All Mr. Cameron mentioned was praises for the Hindus which should be taken as a compliment. Funny how words get twisted so fast.

yes i think so u r making these up...coz i am a sikh myself and i lnw on what basis my religion was formed and what r itz concepts...may be u wrongly interpreted those words said to u by "observant sikhs"
if it doesnt matter to u ...back off then dont poke ur nose in....

NO OFFENCES THOUGH.i have no issues what cameron says about hindus or non hindus..i was just replyin to ur statement of comparing sikh religion to hinduism

He is giving a speech at a religious event, it is incumbent upon him as a politician that he panders to the folks there. The word in U.S that politicians are a just a step above the lawyers.

The following is my understanding.
In BD Hindus vote AL, in India Muslims typically vote Congress. Muslims in U.K vote Labor, in U.S Jews vote Democrat. Its only obvious that Cameron is going to pander for Hindu vote.

Politicians do that. Its the nature of the beast.

The point is, as I said the core principles including a lot of vocabulary between the scriptures and the common message between Sikh and Hindu faiths. Perhaps this might be because of common Indian origins. I shall clarify it again with the local community.

No offence taken. :)
