Claiming that a 'changed mindset' towards black money would increase tax revenue in the country, RSS on Thursday said the people having such wealth abroad should be addressed as "honest citizens" if they agree to pay tax on it.

Senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar said that people having hidden money abroad would not declare the amount if they are called "dishonest and thieves". Opposition parties have attacked the Modi government over its alleged failure in bringing back black money as the BJP had 'promised' during the Lok Sabha campaign.

"I said (to Baba Ramdev) you all keep talking about black money but who will bring it back? Why would one prefer to be called dishonest and a thief? You should have said that any Indian having money abroad should bring it back and deposit 35 per cent of it with the government and he can keep the rest. The government would have received lakhs of crores of rupees. And if this money turns white, it will also become taxable. So, your tax revenue would increase manifold. Such people should be declared as honest citizens of India," he said.

Terming the existing tax-slab too high and a "slavery" for tax-payers, he said it should be brought down as such a move will encourage people to pay their taxes and increase revenue.

Meanwhile, a book titled 'Gaay aur Islam' (cow and Islam), which stresses on "ill effects" of eating meat and other issues, was also released at the meeting. The book is penned by Muslim writers and published by Goraksha Prakosth of Muslim Rashtriya Manch, headed by Indresh.

During his speech, he also stressed upon the works by DSS organisation, saying that DSS will work with a motto 'nation first, nation last', will work for a conflict-free, poverty-free, castiesm-free India and increase harmony amongst people of the "mother land".

The gathering was also addressed by national president of DSS Sarvadanand Arya, Mahipal Singh, Sukhvir Bauddh, Suraj Bhan Kataria among others.

This unfortunately may be true. I have faith that the Governor of RBI has taken this into consideration already.

I feel you.

If they agree to pay taxes how can one term it as black money

Tax slab is too high for a developing world, that is why people like me find legal loopholes to circumvent the issue. :D

. .
The poster needs to apply a logic here. The main issue in India is high tax rate. One of the root cause of black money is tax avoidance. Over the years what started as tax avoidance has got into a habit of tax denial altogether , particularly among the business class. So naturally lowering the tax rate will encourage at least a percentage of this hoarder class. Please also consider that it also causes mental and financial stress to cover the black money trail. So if they can save a bit by declaration due to incentivized tax regime, its a win-win for both the party. Also you need to keep in mind the strict IT avoidance laws which will be soon in place which will put the onus on this particular class or be penlized with strict jail terms or other legal mess.

Why target the poster mate? What logic are you speaking of?

So you have a problem in calling tax payers as honest ? :coffee:
No the tax-thieves...

If they agree to pay taxes how can one term it as black money
Did you read the OP properly... This is what it says

"You should have said that any Indian having money abroad should bring it back and deposit 35 per cent of it with the government and he can keep the rest. How are they thieves when they will pay back taxes ?
OK Consider this scenario...

If a guy steals something and is about to be apprehended, and then he decides to return the stolen item to escape punishment. Would you consider that guy to be honest?

however if a guy who seals returns the stolen goods then he is considered honest.

His reasons for returning the goods is irrelevant. Only actions matter, not thought.

India will give better returns on investments: Jaitley - The Hindu

Asserting that India would give better returns on investments than many other countries, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said foreign investments can provide great additional resources for infrastructure and other sectors.

He said that the government is giving special focus on improving the ease of doing business in the country with initiatives like ‘Make In India’ designed to boost the manufacturing sector that has huge potential.

“India will give better returns than many other countries,” Mr. Jaitley said here addressing investors and business leaders.

He said that foreign investments can give great additional resources and that the country’s infrastructure sector needs huge investments.

“Railways, highways and power sectors are among those that require funds and the success of projects in these areas would largely depend on bankability,” Mr. Jaitley said.

Mr. Jaitley is here for two days seeking to attract foreign investors, including large asset managers, to the Indian markets.

“Special focus is being given on improving ease of doing business. Investors have felt in the past that the procedures have been difficult in India,” he said.

Digital India and Make in India (initiatives) are designed to give special boost to manufacturing and India has huge potential in these areas, he added.

According to him, some states were not charging adequate tariff for electricity as a result of which the health of power distribution companies is being affected.

“These states can not expect the PSU banks to fund the deficit of discoms,” Mr. Jaitley stressed.

Many discoms are grappling with acute financial stress.

Mr. Jaitley said that a key priority of the government was to strengthen the PSU banks. “Some weaker banks could be merged with stronger banks as just diluting stake would not resolve the problem of NPAs (non performing assets),” he added.
