This reminds me of the stupid thing that happened in a brand new beautiful development built to house the elderly and the handicapped in a small city near me. Lots of smiles and ribbon cuttings at the opening.

What was supposed to be a bright spot in these people lives was completely ruined by Liberals who decided gang members shot by other other gang members were also deemed "handicapped" and ended up also being placed in this development. In no time the residents feared for their lives as these guys instantly took up drug dealing and gun sales.

Can't have/do good things because somebody is looking to ruin it.

So Boston basically did the super Liberal stance from the early 1950's until the late 1980's. They managed to scare everybody to the suburbs by increasing taxes to pay for social programs, public housing construction, a vastly expanded government employee workforce, and other benefits.

After realizing they lost their tax base (and finding they can't afford to run all those elaborate and costly programs) they have been trying to woo the people with money back by gentrification (like offloading to private developers those same public housing projects they spent millions on in the 50's). Unfortunately their reversal strategy is just as worse.

For instance developers renovated/rebuilt some incredibly dangerous/notorious/scary/drughaven housing projects on the waterfront and now there are luxury apartments.

Of course those displaced people now live in tents in some of the inner city neighborhoods nobody cares about. Hey what a great solution!!

There are a lot of housing in the Central Valley. Working class people should be strongly encouraged to move there, which will also create a commuter base for the CA HSR system, sort of like how people live in Japan.

Gentrification and foreign home buyers are a necessary option if the tax base is going to be saved, considering all the ways these cities have been run into the ground for decades.

On the other hand, developers need to be encouraged to build rent stabilized housing, especially for city workers like Firefighters and cops and teachers. Residents that saw the city at its worst and stuck with it should also be allowed to continue to pay rent stabilized rates as long as they don’t contribute to the crime in the city.

Also it is imperiative social services like Mental health services and drug rehab is needed now more then ever, with over a 100,000 opioid overdose deaths last year.

What a real SF resident had to say about what is most likely to happen with Mayor London Breed’s state of emergency in the tenderloin. Basically a few months of some changes to try to repair the city’s image but not much is really going to be different a few months from now.

IMHO, real change would one from repealing the laws that allowed people to steal up to $950 a day and get away with it.

This is opposed to what happened on Venice beach over the summer.
