Chindits: CAG Pulls Up IAF For Operation, Maintenance Of Mi Series, Slams Navy For Functioning Of Aviation Arm

index.php

Comptroller and audit General (CAG) has slammed the Indian Airforce (IAF) for their operation and maintenance of Mi series of helicopters, after conducting a performance audit on the Mi fleet of the IAF. The country's watchdog has also pulled up the Indian Navy for the functioning of its aviation arm.

In a report tabled today in Parliament, following were the findings by CAG:

--- IAF is operating with 74% of the helicopters against the current operational requirements.

--- The existing fleet is aging and nearly 78% of the choppers have already completed their prescribed life and Total Technical Life (TTL) extension has been carried out on them to elongate their life.

--- Despite availability of funds and a specific acquisition program, IAF was unable to induct even a single helicopter between 2002 and 2007.

--- The actual utilisation rate of medium lift and heavy lift helicopters varied between 33 to 53 percent and 10-20 percent respectively.

--- Serviceability levels were low and fluctuated between 45-75%.

--- There was a deficit in the availability of helicopters owing to substantial aid given to civil authorities for counter-insurgency, UN missions, requests from friendly nations, unauthorised modification of choppers for VVIP use.

Indian Navy:

A performance audit on the Indian Navy's aviation arm showed delays and shortcomings in the preparation and finalisation of the long term acquisition plans.

--- Indian Navy's air combat capabilities have been drastically reduced owing to availability of only one carrier.

--- Availability of aircraft was a mere 26% of asset strength on account of high number of aircraft undergoing repair.

--- Replacement for the aging aircraft carrier will not be possible before 2013.

--- Attack capabilities of the already depleted aircraft fleet on-board the carrier have been restricted in the absence of a fully functional radar and limited firing of practice missiles.

--- The IN acquired six second-hand UH-3H helicopters in November 2006, whose life had expired and had many defects.

That's because relief work is not needed like 24/7.

Floods like these come once in 100 years. Go read that part of the news.

i dont need to check that out cuz i already know my dear. thats why i offered you JF-17s. we're shortly going for the Chinese and other options for choppers, and thats why i recommended the same to you. now, you don't have to be shy.

U do know that IAF operates 315 Helicopters , while it is true that 200 of these Helicopters will be retired in the next 10 yrs but we have already started the negotiation and tender process for these
India ordered 80 Mi17 Mid Lift Helicopters from russia in 2008 with deliveries having just begun
We are currently Holding trials for 3 different class of helicopters
22 Attack Helicopters (Apache , Mi28)To replace Mi25 Hind
15 Heavy Lift Helicopters (Chinooks , Mi26) to replace older Mi26
Both of these contracts are expected to be given to the Americans with contract being signed when Obama Visits in Nov

64 Light utility Helicopters( Bell , Eurocopter )

Trials of all these heli will be over by November and contract expected to be signed by this time next yr

These are Foreign procurements for the next few yrs
Now about ingenious products

HAL DRUV Utility helicopter : 100 ordered out of which 40 are in service , remaining to be delivered by 2014
HAL LCH currently undergoing Flight tests , 69 have been ordered by IAF with deliveries expected in 2015

So u can see that we have already planned for induction and replacement during the next 5-10 yrs
No need for ur concern
Something that u should note is that indian military requirements are set up by taking into account both china and Pakistan
So the 74% of required strength is for dealing with china , as far is pakistan is concerned , they have enough resources to deal with them

Thank you for your kind offer, buddy. But we got an internationally known chopper in our country that is being rapidly made. Fighters also are being replaced steadily.

For details you can check the entire India Defence section. You'd find plenty of data. We're short of neither fighters nor choppers in the near future.

Archie.. since the past 6 decades ur policy has been Pakistan centric.
2)The cold war is just bs.
3)You cant fight sino-indus at the same time...

Dude, that's totally off topic. Besides, the topic is about rapping IN and IAF on their heads to get new stuff ASAP. Not about fighting a war at the drop of a hat.

Our policy had been centric to you until the end of last century. This century turns our attention to someone that can be genuinely called a military threat.

Thank you brother. Please give us as many JF-17 as you can. Actually, we are in need of huge amount of metal for our ongoing construction works. We have set up many foundaries to melt a lot of metal and we are looking for tons of junk metal from all over the world. JF-17 will be very ideal, as it has a lot of metal. Please, please send as many as you can.

There is no need to take things out of context
Some guy just said about buying chinese Helicopters to fill the Gap
I just told him our current ongoing programmes to modernise the Helicopter fleet

Secondly do u seriously believe that india requires 420
Helicopters to fight Pakistan

If u look carefully , then u will find that Chinese Army and airforce operate about 900 Helicopters , while Indian Army has 180 Helicopters and Indian Air force operate around 315 Helicopters:p:devil:

.
The Fact that you know about this and other internal problems is because India actually has Audit watchdogs , that do their jobs.

This is a good thing not bad.

Although i agree with principally ....But it remains to be seen how seriously these reports are taken by services !!
