CAG picks holes in LCA project, says it fails to meet IAF

@GORKHALI;

It is a recent news, unless you want to say your Media is more retard than it was previously thought of. Your words weight less than his. He is retarded journalist but still being paid for his retardants and you are just a patriotic fellow not paid of his patriotism.
Well my friend you have to accept we are a big democracy living under rules and scrutiny unlike others in our neighbourhood where everything successful and follows copy book manner even after some of their mizzile dump its guidance system over some village.
BTW CAG also have guts to blame army.:P
Very recent news :CAG blames Army for delay in Arjun tanks’ induction

.
CAG is like our retired old uncle with a big mustache who judges and scolds you very harshly irrespective of reasons or your feelings. You can't ague with him, because he have a file full of data.

CAG is responsible for audits. When CAG blames UPA then they are heroes, when CAG questions lack of armed forces preparedness then they are jokers.

.
This must be because of Congress. Because according to some esteemed Indian members here, LCA is superior to BLK52 F-16s.

.
ASHQ requirements have been changed for LCA three times since the prortype started flying with the most recent being the thrust requirements.

As far as two seat trainer requirements is concerned, both mirage and Mig 29 got operational clearance before the two seat trainer even hit the ground.

The report is not based on the current IOC cleared aircraft handed over to IAF, which had the a comprhensive RWR and MAWS installed, PV's did not have a room for chaff dispenser becuase it was housing 3, 24 volt power supplies and 6 of 4-20Ma differential pressure transducers for measuring the static pressure drop in the intake sections. Telemetry removed LCA will have enough space to house a comprehensive SPS.

Even the second seat on the two seat variant was loaded with PLC and NI controllers to monitor the flight performance.

.
Not only that, IAF would be "constrained" to induct the fighter LCA without availability of a trainer model, thereby "adversely impacting pilot training", the audit body said in a report tabled in Parliament.

The CAG noted that it was due to the delay in the manufacture and supply of LCA that IAF had to go for alternative temporary measures such as upgrading its MIG BIS, MiG-29, Jaguar, and Mirage aircraft at a cost of Rs 20,037 crore and revise the phasing out of MiG-21s.

Listing the shortcomings, the CAG said that the LCA Mark-I fails to meet the electronic warfare capabilities sought by IAF as the Self-Protection Jammer could not be fitted on the aircraft due to space constraints.

Also, it said that the Radar Warning Receiver/Counter Measure Dispensing System fitted on the aircraft had raised performance concerns which are yet to be overcome (January 2015).

The LCA Mark-I, which got Initial Operational Clearance in December, 2013, significantly falls short (20 permanent waivers/33 temporary concessions) in meeting the Air Staff Requirement (ASR), the CAG said, adding that that has led to reduced operational capabilities and survivability and, consequently, its operational employability.

It added that the shortcomings in the Mark-I (increased weight, reduced internal fuel capacity, non-compliance of fuel system protection, pilot protection from front, reduced speed) are expected to be overcome in the Mark-II model.

"LCA Mark-I does not meet the ASR. The deficiencies are now expected to be met in LCA Mark-II by December 2018," the CAG said.

While DRDO has always showcased LCA, christened Tejas, as an indigenously-developed aircraft and the indigenous content of the LCA was estimated by ADA to be 70 per cent, the CAG said it "actually worked out to about 35 per cent" as of January this year.

Systems such as Kaveri engine, Multi-Mode Radar, Radome, Multi-Functional Display System and Flight Control System Actuators taken up for indigenous development could not be developed successfully, resulting in LCA's continued dependence on the import of these systems, CAG said.

IAF had proposed in the early 1980s that a new aircraft be developed to replace the MiG-21 fleet,
manufactured during 1966 and 1987, after its phasing out in the 1990s.

That's my point is .

LCA was supposed to be a Mig-21 replacement. As a Mig-21 replacement it is a good aircraft. But unfortunately Mig-21 lifespan in IAF is history now so thus LCA itself has no place in IAF.

Some of the emotional keyboard fanatics from Indian group fail to understand this simple logic and start whining whenever somebody criticises the LCA.

If LCA will be inducted then it will have to defend Indian airspace from PAF F-16 Blk 52 and PLAAF 5th gen aircraft J-20.

How many seconds will LCA last against these two?

Does other aircrafts of IAF stand a chance against Fifth generation J20, I dont think so. We need FGFA to counter that.

About F16 block 52, question is would they survive a onslaught by Sukhoi30mkis. Block 52 is capable but low in numbers. IAF got edge in numbers by a mile. On the other hand, Eastern skies will be guarded by Rafales. If things get down to lca vs f16, lca vs j20, that means we have already lost the war.

About Mig21 ending its lifespan, sole purpose of LCA development is to replace it. As they are being phased out, lca is starting to replace them. Developing a light single engine aircraft has many advantages. For instance, simple combat petrol in peace time, no point using a high maintanance intensive, oil consuming Sukhoi 30 mki for such simple purposes. Why do you think IAF still used Mig21 Bisons, PAF & plaaf J7. Mig 21 cant take on a F16, F7 cant take on A Mki, Mirrage200 or Mig29. But still adds up quite a punch for simple CAS, interception of transport aircrafts, recoinance aircrafts, UAVs etc.

I am not a big fan of LCA mki but we can certainly improve it with each batch like Russians did with Sukhoi 27 at inception & USA did with F16 for that matter.

I do agree LCA at this time is a lemon which still packs a punch.

Which is a bit like asking "how long will an amx-13 last against a patton?"

And both questions are irrelevant. The combination of amx and centurion devastated the supposedly invincible pattons at khem kharan.

Similarly, the real question is: how long will the f-16s and j-10s survive against the deadly combo of su-30 and lca? The answer is not long, because the light but lethal lca with their excellent avionics, modern engine and low res is the perfect complement for the heavy sukhoi.

Because we all know tanks and fighter aircraft are the same thing.

Yes fanboy you are absolutely right. The LCA is far superior to F-16 Blk 52.

. .
Who cares? They are both third rate planes that don't even have the one and only thing that matters in a fighter jet
Hint: three letter word, starts with d

DSI jokes aside LCA is obsolete and that is why it has been delayed for close to 40 years. People would have joined and retired from the air force in this timespan.

No, TACTICS and designing your fleet accordingly is what is superior to "specs"

That why your pattons got clobbered by amx / centurions, karachi and half your fleet clobbered by tiny missile boats and obsolete hunters wiped out an armoured regiment

A combination of lca, rafale and sukhois will be far stronger than any of those individual planes, and far stronger than whatever block 52 or mif-21 clones you can throw. Just like a mif-21 working with sukhois could humble the much vaunted f-15s
