Pakistan grants India Most Favoured Nation trade status

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's cabinet unanimously decided on Wednesday to grant India Most Favoured Nation status to liberalise trade between the two South Asian countries, Pakistan's information minister said, a move that could improve ties between the rivals.

"Today after an extensive briefing by the commerce secretary, the cabinet unanimously decided to grant India Most Favoured Nation status," the minister, Firdos Ashiq Awan, told a news conference.

they are returning the favour that India did way back. They are acting on it almost after 15 years though.

how very very sad , today the PPP government has earned it's right to be terminated and then exterminated.

All major businesses in Pakistan are owned and run by the political families.
Thus trade with India will be owned and governed by the same families.
Therefore we can not entrust these families to be Anti India.

Today India has purchased her victory and regional hegemony.

seems something went wrong...I think generals and terrorist organisations in PAK (enemies of stable and prosperous Pak) have interfered and forced government to change the decision.
MFN status to India: Pak creates confusion, China welcomes move

ISLAMABAD/BEIJING: Hours after announcing that it would grant the much-delayed MFN status to India, Pakistan government issued several confusing statements which made no direct mention of the significant step aimed at boosting bilateral trade.

Though Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said at a crowded press conference on Wednesday that the federal Cabinet had unanimously approved a proposal to give India the Most Favoured Nation status, statements issued by the government last night merely said the Cabinet had cleared a proposal for "normalisation of trade relations".

The statements made no mention of the Cabinet approving the Commerce Ministry's summary or proposal for giving India the MFN status, as had been announced by the Information Minister.

Significantly, Awan had announced that all stakeholders, including the powerful military, were "on board" for the move to give India MFN status.

After the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Awan's pree conference, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Secretariat late in the night said the Cabinet was "briefed on the steps being taken for normalisation of trade with India".

The Cabinet was "apprised about the further steps to be taken in this direction so as to bring trade in line with our international obligations", the statement said, without making any mention of giving MFN status to India.

The Cabinet further directed the Commerce Ministry to "ensure that Pakistan's vital national economic interests are fully protected", the statement said.

China welcomes Pak move to grant MFN status to India

China on Thursday welcomed Pakistan's decision to grant the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) trade status to India, saying it would like to see improvement of relations between its two "important neighbours".

"India and Pakistan are important countries in South Asia. The improvement of relationship between the two countries is critical to peace, stability and development in the region," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei told a media briefing here on Thiursday while replying to question on Beijing's reaction o the development.

The Pakistani cabinet on Wednesday approved the MFN status for India, which means that Pakistan will give trade treatment to India at par with its other partners.

India had granted the MFN status to Pakistan way back in 1996.

"As a neighbour and friend of the two countries China hope, India and Pakistan can improve their relationship through dialogue and cooperation for common development," he said

Pakistan's only enemy is India which has destroyed Pakistan's economy by sending terrorists, destroying schools, open flood gates and when nothing worked in Lahore they came with Dengue virus.

Zardari and his cabinet is installed upon Pakistan by an evil design.

I wish, Pakistan army should not have returned the sneaking Indian helicopter.
