Actually they don't want peace, they want complete control of Afghanistan. Last time when peace negotiations were being held, they leaked Mullah Omar's death, now when efforts being made to bring them back to the table, they again kill Taliban leader, so peace negotiations are over.
Taliban will never agree to anything which says US troops will have to stay, and US will never want to take out its troops from Afghanistan.
You should check the context in which whatever Zia had to say. Had the Afghans not fought Russia, then who do you think would be next on the Russian target list. So the Afghans fight for their homeland did save us. And after Russians left, it was for the Afghans to come together and build their country & nation back again, but they choose to fight for the seat among themselves and it definitely brought in Pakistan to Afghan mess again. I wish we had refrained from their internal fight, let them fight it out, but alas what can be said now as its past. But we should learn from the past and look into the future and let the Afghans handle their country themselves.
But the statements from Afghan side regarding the status of Pak-Afghan border & recent problems from Afghan side for the fencing being done on our side of the border is a clear indication that once the Northern-led Afghan govt settles, it will create huge problems for us in future, and such kind of attitude will not help you guys in refraining us from getting involved in your domestic issues as we are already facing one huge enemy on our eastern border and we can't take chances to face another enemy at our North-West border & an enemy who is sitting in the lap of our eastern enemy.
