Hello,

I have a Pakistani friend in Rawalpindi who designs dresses fashion ones for weddings etc and I feel it has big demand in the west for such beautiful custom made outfits, I was thinking to create a website and market it for Asian brides in the west. Can people give their opinion? I will share her designs and want to get peoples views thanks.

I think you can be successful in this ONLY if you have someone in the states working along with you. It will be hard to market otherwise, you will have to spend money on advertisements.

Sir what about seo, and marketing it in Asian bridal shows etc? she tells me minimum per dress is $5,000 but can be upwards of $10-15k depending on fabric, cut, design etc

Yes, but quantity is limited. Competition is high.

And you are new. You can try it, doesn't hurt but chance of success will remain low.

True there is many designers and I know next to nothing about the industry but I feel she is really talented and was thinking there has to be a demand as girls are spending so much these days on weddings

market for these type of dresses is pretty niche and beware no one is going to buy a wedding dress on website.these dresses are bought to be worn on very special day of customers life so they will not risk buying it with out physically trying it out first so you should consider leasing a shop and consider hiring a tailor for alterations (permanent or contractual basis depends on you).but main thing you should keep in mind is that market is pretty niche so care should be taken when investing capital not to invest too much in beginning.

That's the issue she is in Pakistan and currently just sells the dresses there and yes the point about the ladies trying the outfits on is a fair one but what if there was a bespoke website where they can select the materials, the design, etc and the designer works with the bride to create the dress? more and more Western white ladies are liking these designs also but as of this moment she just sells in Pakistan but west is lucrative as well I think.

lets consider these two factors before moving forward
1)how much bespoke website is going to cost (also keep support and maintenance cost in consideration)
2)how are you going to market the dresses and how much it is going to cost?
look mate you need competitive advantage to excel in any business.make things easier for customers and give them what they want.your points of working with designer are great competitive advantage but not having a shop is a great disadvantage as people like to be sure that they are getting what they want after all its is their most special day and having a shop assures them that correct measurement are being taken by professional.last thing mate why will people buy from you you don't have any renown designer to attract people you need representation and advertisement of the product and in this type of businesses shops are best advertisement and marketing tools combine it with website and you have a good setup.

How about you create an account in eBay ? This way all the logistics and payments will become easy. As for marketing you can create a page in Facebook and add some of your friends into it. Make the facebook page public and tell your friends to share the contents of your page in their timeline. This way word of mouth marketing for the products will be achieved. If your friend's work is good then she will probably attract orders from US or UK. Try targetting the diaspora. What you can do in facebook is upload one of the photos and write all the details in page. And then mention the eBay link to order.


Other option is to open a boutique and import the stuff directly into the market location.

First, Age old idea and already running so expect a cut throat competition.

second, does it comes with jet pack to sweep off brides from their feet if groom couldn't because from the price it certainly do :).

Please research on the price range for established and new comer designers. You need to have good network before you start selling it. Having a designer and product is not enough. I did have startup idea in fashion and did a lot of research along with feasibility test. It is still on hold due to other plans. I am not discouraging you but suggesting you to do rigorous research before you jump in to it. If you are not at all related to this field then you better talk to who is already in this field. Make friends in fashion world. Beware of indecent offers :).
