Business Atmosphere in Pakistan

I have been in Saudi for thirty years now and feel quite exhausted and with the oil prices down the outlook isn't looking very well. So I decided to take a long retreat to Pakistan and attempt to establish something over there..I have formed an energy and consultancy business around 2003 and formally registered it with SECP in 2007 and thinking to give it a boot one more time. Due to lack of local market experience I did not make any strides in business and then with the down fall of Mushraff everything went to dirt..but plan to do something seriously this time plus I have hired employees and have accumulated good market information now.

What could be good potential business in the line of energy and engineering? I have though of solar and light engineering for export oriented manufacturing..what else ?

Generators manufacturing/dealing
Solar panel systems for commercial buildings
Contact all housing scheme managements and ask for joint ventures in this field
LNG project
provide material, expertise, man power in various energy projects in Pakistan which includes Nuclear, Solar, Coal, and hydel projects

you could sell hand held fans , you know the ones made from dates tree and be a hawker
on a serious note
you say you had a consultancy buisness but whats your expertise ???
i assume you are proficient in engineering
I am definately not an engineering person , but what I think is that people need SOLUTIONS , they are lazy , they need someone to do the heavy lifting, I know as I am a proponent of open source and linux in particular
even when I point people in the right direction they will go for a ready made solution even if its 3-4 times the cost
thats just my observation , with linux i have learnt that people dont treasure anything they get for free

trigeneration system is quite cheap both in terms of initial investment required and for its operation and maintenance. This is its biggest advantage over other methods of generation. So actually not much money is needed to develop it.

If you are competent you could devise one for a tertiary care hospital , they need electricity , air conditioning and steam for laundry and disinfection , its small enough and you could get a contract for maintenance as well or you could just consult

I am sorry I am not very organised , but if you read the post you might get some other ideas

Solar energy is a good area especially if you provide a complete solution for homes and industries. Recently, in a talk with my relatives in a small town of Punjab, they told me how solar panels are transforming the homes and businesses in here. Some people are just complementing the grid during the power failures but there are quite a few who want to get totally independent from the grid by installing a large enough of PV panels to cater for all their needs.

I have a lot of experience and deep technical understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
I have been selling high tech stuff, engineering and industrial goods, manufacturing technologies, Industrial spare parts, etc.
I already have a company in Pakistan aimed to establish in alternate energy however due to lack of local experience I was unable it to take it off but now I have hired capable staff to assist me.

We are aiming to offer solar solutions for domestic and industrial use sourced from Europe (factory has a share from another Pakistani friend of mine and we decided to co-operate in different geographies). We plan to offer solar systems on 36 - 60 Months installments.

Solar based air-conditioning and solar-hybrid air-conditioning upgrades to reduce electricity consumption for commercial air conditioning.

And in future perhaps we could expand into several things...
