Bush era warmth over? US seen drifting from India

Presidents from the Democratic Party like obama, clintion have always been more popular in India but the fact is that they are anti India (pro pak, china) and Republicans like Bush are more sane and good for India but they are not very popular.

This has to be the joke of the century, even Americans think of Bush as an a-hole who has hurt US' softer image all over the world and pissed off too many countries. He may have been good for India but he was not sane.

To the point man.

It is so sad that the Indian populace shows its stupidity to the whole world denouncing by Bush, and loving Clinton and Obama without even noticing who did what for this country.

I remember when MMS said that people in India love Bush, and everyone in India was up in arms at that. Oh they were so angry at the man who fought the whole effing world to get India the nuke deals. And then I saw how Indians rejoiced when Obama got elected - simply because he is black.

I guess Obama and Clinton are treating us right for being the utter fools that we are.

The reason is leftist influence + pseudo secular vote bank politics.

u need a serious update on how world politics work. Why would Bush bend backwards to help India...there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics

Dude if you know the whole freaking media industry is somewhat leftist, even if they are themselves indulged in crony capitalism. For them to speak about US is something of a mission.

Till now for me the best POTUS, India had ever had was indubitably George Bush. I dont give a freaking finger what he did in Afghanistan or Iraq. He went against the whole world (well not exactly as France,UK,Russia etc were always willing to trade with India) in granting us the nuke deal and always say India as an equal partner.

I still dont get why Indian , atleast most of them I've met, go gaga over Obama..he is one of the most useless President of US , India has ever had.

But then may be he has the charisma that GWB always lacked. Sad.

He may have been good for India but he was not sane.

Who cares as long as he was good to India ? That is the only concern for me as an Indian.

You are not the first one, and you will not be the last one either, to say that Bush is... what... a-hole?

The soft image... image doesn't mean crap!!! China has the worst image in the world, well... second worst, but who is stopping that country?

The fact remains, Bush is a genius, so no wonder few understand him and his policies. He was so good for the country, he did not allow such recession any time during his era.

It was already supposed to come down on Americans in 2001, then again in 2004, but he kept everything away. He was among the best of Presidents that country could have, and worst of US Presidents that Iraq could ask for, that's all.

Yea, some say he has 2 digit IQ, some say he is an ape, some say this some say that... those who bark like that are free to go and become the US President - twice in a row, wage 2 big wars at once, bear a massive attack on the nation, and yet keep the economy and life running at fast pace in the country.

No attacks on the US during Obama, no extra war waged, no extra expenses either... and yet Obama couldn't keep a grip on the bankers robbing each other and now the country is falling apart. That's Obama for you.

Emotional much, aren't we Indians? :P

You are right about everything you said. Bush's timing of the invasion of Iraq was flawed to begin with. And I doubt if he made those exaggerated claims about Iraq's WMDs all by himself.

Sure, the US has high debt, but does that mean it's economy has to do badly? No!

Indeed, Obama is literally screwing the entire country. And maybe the world. I'd suggest anyone to be very wary of him. And frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if he loses the next election.

Clinton was a very good president by the way.

u need a serious update on how world politics work. Why would Bush bend backwards to help India...there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics

First, it is not politics, it is international relations and diplomacy that you may want to talk about. Bush is not contesting an election in India to play politics here.

Second, Bush is not a country, it's name of a man who is indeed more a friend of India than of any others in the region.

Third, come to me with the 123 agreement, and I will show you what India gains and what India loses.

Fourth, you should be so thankful to Bush for ending the Taliban era. Yeah, same Talibans that forced the Foreign Minister to release key terrorists... no wait... escort them, to Afghanistan so they would further harm India.

Fifth, isn't India the one and only country, not even US's darling Israel, that is not an NPT signatory and yet has the legal right to further its nuke weapons research? It's so amazing that you do not realize that this impossibility was achieved by Bush, and only for India!

Sixth, if it were not for Bush, Pakistan would have greater amounts of aids and greater number of advanced F-16 against India. Pakistan is in a mess today, and India can breath a little, all achieved by none but the pro-India Bush.

Seventh, it was during Bill Clinton's era that they knew Pakistan was furthering its nuke program and yet they kept sending the F-16s and other weapons. Feel free to say, "Oh no enemies or friends...".

Eighth, it was during Bush era that India appeased Iran as well as the US, and the US did not raise any problems. When Obama came, he danced, his wife danced, people cheered, and Indians gave away $10B worth of business. Next, India is told, if it supports Iran, it will find itself alone. Ouch - India finds itself alone and Iran demands all the arrears on oil deals to be completed in a deadline.

No friends, no foes. It is not politics, it is international relations. But unless you ally with a party, my brother, you are going to find yourself hanging in between with no one to help, just as was India with its NAM member countries and was bankrupt before even celebrating it's 50th birthday. Actually, even the NAM countries didn't give a croak o' sh!t about India. If India were safe all these years of poverty, then it was only because India actually sided with a powerful country - USSR!

If India had not sided with countries against China, then not a single ONGC personnel would have survived in South China Sea.

You gotta take a side man, or the world will move on.

Or... you can take this country back to that level of pre-1991 poverty era.

You are the people, you deserve what you choose.

Most Indians who think of NAM as some honeymoon alliance do not know that NAM worked for India only because NAM in itself was pro USSR. When the US 7 th fleet sailed into BoB it was not the NAM that saved our arse, but rather the Soviet subs courtesy the Friendship Treaty with USSR.

NAM was not 'so' NAM in reality.

I thanked your post but thought that, i should share something to this excellent post. The day when Indians start understanding International politics atleast accurately, we would be in a different gear i guess.

Man, some times it is amusing, but some times it is frustrating to see Indians making denigrating comments about Bush.

I so clearly remember when his 50 strong team, along with himself, kept traveling throughout the world and worked overtime to get all the countries in line to approve nuclear deal for India. And when MMS says people of India love Bush, oh god... I could only smile at the stupidity displayed by Indians.

I mean, Indians were even opposing the attack on Taliban, that have Indian blood on their hands. It is like... kicking the arse of your friend to save the murderers of your own brother... how sad can that be?

It is true, and I feel it is so because media in India, esp during Indira era, was highly restricted and often persecuted. People rarely were aware to what was happening around them. I remember since I was 10 or so, I so often used to be shocked at the ignorance displayed by people when it came to international affairs.

Things take time to change, and they are changing, especially after the advent of the internet. And it is changing very fast. The newer generation is so much more aware than the previous one in this country, it is really great to see that!

So yeah, what you are saying is already in process and the process is accelerating. The future is bright for India indeed, but we live in a 'comparative' world. And we ought to outpace others if we want to have it our way.

Dont worry..most of the Indians who 'troll' (yes I said troll) in the media are dyed in the wool leftists and JNU passouts in whose vocabulary US means evil/imperialist and the US actions must be condemned at all cost even if it means spiting yourselves.

For them US opposing Palestine or attacking Iraq is a much more life changing moment that Bush 'legitimizing' Indian nuclear weapons and opening a door to an organization that itself was created to keep India out of nuclear trade without compromising on our strategic programme and one which we desperately need to meet our ever growing energy needs.

This NAM charade has gone for long and even the recent UN seat for Palestine laid bare the fact that India is still caught in the socialist pre-1991 mindset. I hope soon the Indian MEA comes out of this cocoon and defines a place for itself in this world ratehr than remaining wishy washy non-comittal in international politics.

This is not a Bush eulogy..Sure he did some unsavoury things in the rest of the globe...but my point is why should i as an Indian care about that if he was beneficial to my country ?

Yeah i remember the same, i used to read the editorials and the center page of Hindu regularly for articles on International Politics. It was always interesting to me. It started with me trying to read and learn new words from editorial, but these articles took the precedence. I will not say that i understood everything easily, but i tried my best and gradually improved to some level. Lot of people are not interested and love to quote stereotypes and words of others as their own. Even my parents or close relatives don't know the least about them.

What you say is true and it should be like that as our future generations shouldn't be in the dark.

Nothing wrong,IMO the US is more angry on our support for Libya & Iran than MMRCA.We should pursue our own independent foreign policy.Anyways I heard that Obama & MMS will have a long summit next week in Bali.
