Bure din? BJP gives away Delhi celebratory sweets, beggars won't acknowledge
Bure din? BJP gives away Delhi celebratory sweets, beggars won't acknowledge - Firstpost
BJP's Delhi office wore a deserted look after its loss to AAP. PTI
Despite pre-poll surveys predicting a majority for AAP, the party went ahead and ordered sweets to celebrate its win in the national capital.
Buoyed by its own survey that predicted a majority for it, the party, sources said had ordered 20 kg of orange and green barfis for victory celebrations.
But along came the AAP tsunami winning a whopping 67 seats out of 70 and swept away all its chances of doing mun mitha with the multi-coloured sweets.
The Hindustan Times quoted a BJP leader on the condition of anonymity as saying, "Earlier, we were confident of majority and after polling and exit polls, we thought in worst case it will be a hung assembly. The quantity was reduced and the sweets were prepared outside office to avoid embarrassment in case of defeat."
And hung assembly it was not. So the sweets were given to beggars at the Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place.
BJP's humiliation did not stop there.
Much to the plight of the party, like Delhi voters refused to acknowledge BJP's promises of 'achhe din', the beggars too denied having received any barfis.
"Why would BJP distribute sweets? They have lost to our Kejriwal," Hindustan Times quoted a beggar as saying.
