Bulgaria Has Largest Share of Women among NATO Armies

The percentage of women in the Bulgarian Army is the highest among all NATO members, the country's Minister of Defense, Anyu Angelov, has stated.
Women constitute 14% of Bulgaria's Army, while the average for the alliance is 8-10%, according to Angelov who spoke before the media on the International Women's Day. The share of Bulgarian women is highest in the air force– 19%, the Minister clarified.
Recently, Rositsa Chertokova from the Military Medical Academy in Sofia became the first Bulgarian woman to be reach the rank of colonel. On Tuesday, Minister Angelov declared he hoped for a female Bulgarian general soon.
Angelov said also he does not consider banning pregnancy in the Army as did other NATO states.
