What's new

Buddhism, Christianity share same goals: Dalai Lama

He is being stupid. Thats it.

.
It is a well known fact that Buddha was against brahminism, rituals and caste.

LOL. Buddha was far to enlightened to be against anyone or anything.

He was trained by Hindu monks/saits in various philosophies, finally settling on Mīmāṃsā school of philosophy. His own enlightenment and relentless preaching later consolidated itself as Buddhism.

The Anti Brahmanism story has a more recent political beginning. Dalits in India started taking up Buddhism as directed by their leader Dr. Ambedkar who was anti Brahmin, rituals and caste. This translated to a story about Buddhism being against Brahims which is ludicrous as Buddhism isn't against anything, but focuses on searching for enlightenment. And this search is the essence of Hinduism, as old as Hinduism.

He was against the idea of caste.... But u don't need to be Buddha to understand that the concept of caste is stupid...

He was neither against caste nor for it. He was preaching for men to renounce everything, their greed, their fear, their pride etc. caste was just one of the things he asked people to renounce. :disagree:

This story is a typical Dalit story weaving itself into Buddhism.

I do not think the concept of Varna is stupid, but its corrupted practice is defunct in modern day India and its original idea cannot be implemented anymore.

You are contradicting yourself... IF dalits twist the story of Buddha to impose the concept of equality on the rest of populace i see no wrong in that.. When you put some communities as better and some inferior it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see how stupid it is... And concept of Varna is not suitable in present times as well... how can u divide the profession of people into just 4 groups and tell me what purpose it achieve or how will it contribute anything to the society... Moreover, the fact that Buddha opposed cast is well documented , a google search away..

It is not my narrative that is contradictory, its your limited understanding fueled by ignorance and stereotype assumption that is confusing you.

1. Twisting religion to further political ends is wrong. If you see nothing wrong, you have poor sense of morality and ethics.

2. Varna does not claim certain communities are better than others.

3. I have already agreed Varna is not suitable for present time.

4. Buddha's claimed position comes from his preaching that made no difference between the rich or poor, noble birth or low born, beauty or ugliness, smart or dumb, educated or idiot. Buddhism makes no distinction. There was never a challenge to the caste system.

The differences of individuals' fortune to be born in various social classes and rankings, or individuals' good looks and intelligence are the result of their karma, which have nothing to do with the perfection of their Buddha Nature; granted the fact that some need to work harder to clear their karma, in order to have their Buddha Nature re-discovered.

.
Both Hinduism and Buddhism are Dharmic religions and both have lot of commonalities than differences.
Actually, Hindus now consider Buddha to be a part of the Hindu Pantheon and an Avatar of Vishnu. In certain parts of India, especially the east, popular art, say calendar art depicts Buddha as an intrinsic part of the Indian Divinity. In, say a 100 years, if there is no violence and forced separateness, then the neo buddhists will just become a part of the Indian and Hindu social system, another strand in the salad bowl that is India. This absorptive capacity of the Indian civilization was the great fear that drove certain Muslims to start the Deoband Seminary, that was the impetus for the Tablighi movement and the raison d'être for the Pakistan movement. Look at Christianity in Central India now. Mary wears a sari, the hymns are called Bhajans and church worship follows Hindu forms. I would say, again, that in the absence of conflict which leads to separateness, the Central Indian Christians too would be absorbed by Hinduism as a separate caste within the social system of India.

Buddha tried Brahmins way because he couldn't find enlightenment, so he went on his own. He rejected ritual and caste, he even rejected idiot worship that Hindu are fond of. In Buddhism there is no god.

1) No need for priests (brahmins) or rituals.

2) Anyone can enter Nirvana, no matter how lowly, whereas in Hinduism only the brahmins could achieve moksha.

3) In Theravada Buddhism, there are no gods. The Buddha is not a god.

4) Karma is not earned by following the dharma of your caste. Instead you can move toward entry into Nirvana by following the eightfold path.

5) As the "middle way" Buddhism rejects extreme asceticism as well as great wealth. The ideal in Hinduism is extreme asceticism.

There are all kinds of Buddhism, the kind where there are gods, and the kind where there are no gods. Don't spread ignorance and stupidity.

1. Hindus don't have idiot worship. .... maybe the chinese do.

2. Do not spread ignorance or stupidity about Hinduism without knowing anything about it.

3. Karma is what you do by following your Dharma, caste or not caste. Its not something to be earned.

4. Again do not talk about Hinduism without knowing anything about it. It just makes your sound stupid at best, bigot at worst.

You love making a fool of yourself, don't you?
