BTRC anti-cyber crime body receiving complaints

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)

DHAKA, April 22 (BSS) - Bangladesh Computer Security Incident Response Team (BD-CSIRT) formed by the telecom regulatory body today started receiving complaints and suggestions to thwart cyber crime in the country.

"We've started receiving complaints and suggestions through email: contact@csirt.gov.bd to prevent cyber crime in the country," Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) vice chairman and head of the BD-CSIRT Giasuddin Ahmed told BSS.

He said the team would investigate immediately after receiving any complaint and take punitive action measuring the importance of the incident.

"The webpage would be closed immediately for sever offence while the offender for general crime would be warned," Giasuddin said.

The BD-CSIRT chief said punitive measure would be taken against all the criminals as per the existing law.

The BD-CSIRT will develop a webpage on cyber crime within a short time that will help the people to be cautious about cyber crime.

The 11-member body of BD-CSIRT has started activities to detect cyber crime since January 25 this year and the BTRC trained up three cyber crime experts from abroad.
The body is headed by BTRC Vice-Chairman Giasuddin Ahmed while the director of systems and services was made member-secretary.

Other members are -- BTRC deputy director of legal and licensing and representatives from International Internet Gateway, mobile phone operators, Internet service providers, PSTN operators and cyber cafe associations.

The BD-CSIRT is mainly assigned to identify the sites, persons or institutions engaged in harmful activities against the state, society and political and religious beliefs using mobile phones, websites and different social networking sites.

Earlier, the BTRC Director General (Legal and Licence) AKM Shahiduzzaman told BSS that a person convicted of cyber crimes may face two to five years of imprisonment and fines ranging from Taka 5 lakh to Taka 5 crore.

"The punishment would be handed down under Sections 69 and 74 of Telecommunication Act," he added.

I am wondering what is the chances of listing PDF on the watch list??? It is really a fact that now PDF has turned into the biggest source for all sort of affair from politics, economics, defense, sports etc related to Bangladesh. As azzidane pointed out earlier if anyone try to google anything on Bangladesh this PDF pops out. I am also agree with the fact that a huge number of guest always keeps an eye on the forum. I always wonder who they are!!!

The following part of the news is really concerning if it is applied to any person by twisting logic and saying he is involved in harmful or anti state activities or the most controversial part againt political belief. Even though I have not get the part political here.

The BD-CSIRT is mainly assigned to identify the sites, persons or institutions engaged in harmful activities against the state, society and political and religious beliefs using mobile phones, websites and different social networking sites.

But here most of the Bangladeshis discuss mostly issue of Bangladesh are highly patriotic apart from few.

No Capitan that's not the case, although similar thought came into my mind
but the only reason PDF pops out because the users over here spends
quite a handful of time browsing this site while being logged in on google
or yahoo mail.

Google shows search results according to a users traffic patterns, so naturally
someone who is not interested in defense matters would find the link of
BDNEWS or Prothom alo rather then this place.

More traffic from BD PDF is good to make you incognito. If thousands Bangladeshies get connected to PDF IP if then it will be little difficult to trace you, but still it is possible to decode/intercept your packets since PDF does not use encrypted SSL connection. But that needs sophisticated software like NarusInsight or Carnivore, Carnivore (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . So more users from BD is good. Right now only 3.7 percent of PDF members come from BD. Defence.pk Site Info

Anyway, which country has trained our team? I hope that's not India.

How you are sure only 3.7% of PDF members come from BD??

The question is not whether it is traceable or not when coming to PDF but question is whether it is in the watch list or not!!!

Go there Defence.pk Site Info and click on Audience tab and look below.

You can be in the watch list but they will not be able to prove that what are you posting without decode your packets. They only will know you visit PDF seeing your IP history, not what you post here without sniffing packets.

Sabash Bhager Bascha! First off, please don't give rat's azz on these sorts of fear and smear tactics to shut your mouth off.
2ndly, let them be men enough to face you with logic and rational. 3rdly, the path of righteousness is always scary for powerful criminals, so they would try to use all of their might to malign you but be resolute BRO. We have to die anyway, so let's cherish resistance.

Man you live in abroad that why you are saying these but you would say the opposite if you would have live in Bangladesh. It will be really problematic if PDF is in watch list. Even though most of the people here are patriotic for Bangladesh but some of you are hugely anti Awami League which may fall in one of the category of the crime "engaged in harmful activity against party belief". Remaining careful while you post wont cost you much.

:lol:if this site is not in the watch list than no site is, do a google search on bangladesh regarding politics or defense it is the first site to pop up. You won't see lot of Bangladeshi posters, but a lot of lurkers.

They could be from some other country's. If they really need to watch and put someone in trial then munshi would be behind bar long time ago as most of the post related to conspiracy theories and coup has been posted by him... but nothing happened to him so far.

.
^^-----Munshi is a lawyer, you don't want to mess with a lawyer, trust me. Munshi also has connections in the law community plus britsh connections. The attention chap munshi is, he probably wants to get arrested, i would if i was him:lol:

Hahaha ... anyway what is your perception regarding posting here... do you think any poster here could be charged with offense of anti state activity through the law!!!

Someone might have said earlier that munshi might have want to get arrested badly to get publicity and police/rab wont be kind enough to give him such publicity he want.

I said that:lol:......if you notice no one posting from bangladesh posts anything highly 'offensive' well except munshi. I don't think government will persue anyone from here, not worth the time and feeding. Lot of BNP 'cadres' out there in dhaka:lol:. I'll be visiting BD soon, i don't think i'll be visiting here then. I have actually seen NSI harass a boy of 17-19 years of age for visiting a specific website that propagates anti-american messages. So yes, if the big brother wants you, they will.
