BSF kills Bangladeshi along Lalmonirhat border, abducts another

BSF troopers have killed 767 Bangladeshis between 2001 and December 22 this year, according to the BGBAFP

The BGB has protested against the incidents and called for flag meetings

A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha.

A patrol team of Cooch Behar 100 BSF battalion fired four rounds at a group of Bangladeshi cattle smugglers who were trying to cross the border at Doikhaoa.

Shafiqul Islam, 26, died on the spot. He hailed from Hatibandha’s Amjhol area.

His body has been left near main pillar number 905 at the Doikhaoa border.

Lalmonirhat 15 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion director Lt Col Golam Morshed said they had protested against the incident and called for a flag meeting with the BSF.

In a separate development, a BSF patrol team intruded into Bangladesh territory and abducted a farmer who was working in his cornfield near Lalmonirhat sadar upazila’s Mogolhat border in the morning.

BGB troopers from Mogolhat camp rushed to the spot after learning about the abduction of Sabed Ali.

Locals and BGB sources said a patrol team of 38 BSF battalion’s Gitadaldah camp entered into Bangladesh around 7:45am.

It was unclear why the farmer has been abducted. The BGB has sent a letter of protest. Lt Col Morshed said they had called for a company commander-level meeting to get back Sabed.

Only two days ago, the BSF caught two Bangladeshis along the Lalmonirhat border and tortured them. One of them managed to escape to Bangladesh. The BSF has handed over the other detainee to Indian police.

The continuous killing of Bangladeshi nationals along the border has been a contentious bilateral issue and has not stopped despite Delhi’s assurance.

BSF troopers have killed 767 Bangladeshis between 2001 and December 22 this year, according to the BGB.

Most deaths along the border are related to cattle smuggling.

Bsf seems to be target practicing on poor bangladeshis. Every two days later india kills bangladeshis around the border but bengalis on this forum cry about 71

For eg, bsf killed a man around border in Jan 2017 , bengalis will cry pakistan did genocide in 71

Bsf kills 4 bengalis in Feb 2017 , banglas will cry here pakistan did genocide in 71

Bsf kills 5 bengalis in March 2017 , banglas will cry pakistan did genocide in 71

Fast forwards
Bsf kills bengalis in March 4900 , banglas will cry here pakistan did genocide in 71

Same thought. Our priorities are misplaced due to influence Hindutva strong presence in our controlled media. If anything happens related to India. Nothing to see here move on.

On our side scores are always settled by killing bsf whether they target our civilians or militarymen.

BDeshi govt should find alternate markets for their cattle and cattle products.
It's not a hard thing.

If proper quarantine is done and the price is right, put them on a boat and send it to southern India.

My bad. It's actually India's cattle being smuggled out. Not good BDeshis. Not good.

Illegals are to be killed and this ruthless measure send message directly.

Cattle smugglers? Wtf kinda smuggling is that? lol
1. Do smugglers go from BD to India to steal cows because there is shortage of cows in BD?
OR
2. Do smugglers go to India to sell BD cows?

If it's 1 then why don't they breed them simply?
If it's 2 why would anyone in India buy cows as they usually don't consume beef?

Bangladeshis dont like Pakistan fine! But does that mean having no self respect towards india.

Bangladesh should build up some military muscle and justify it with the situation in myanmar.

For starters a short range missile program which deters incursions of troops. This is a less expensive option than having other weaponry. Even a small country like Qatar has it. More paramilitary units across the border with more fortifications.

Yes its number 1, but the number has dropped significantly (because of BSF and modi govt policy)...its not really stealing per se, they go there and buy from Indian cattle dealers because of price differential across the border....and then have to smuggle across (bribe if they know who can be bribed, or risk illegal transit with their own neck on the line).

Just like how drugs get smuggled across South America + Central America to the US.

Bangladesh has tried to increase its own herds, but there is only so much capacity they have (Esp when yet again BBS has made BS stats about it for feel good purpose, as I remember that you read in my post in the BBS thread of the ludicrous 75% processing rate claim by BD). The continue increase of beef price in BD does not lie as to what the clampdown on border smuggling has done....and that perpetuates the trade at the much decreased level given the money on offer thats involved.

So you will see the frequency of this BSF action continue at some long term rate, simply because we are talking about a population of 170 million people or so in proximity and confined in small resource starved area.

man please do not kill them

Ideally yes, but these people often have their own firearms and weapons...a border agent must not take any chances when the situation in operation is not clear.

Killing people is certainly a devilish act. However, it is very difficult to contest a case when he is a cattle smuggler, he goes inside a sovereign country without permit and he crosses back to his country with the cattle. These cattle smugglers are very daring and unruly. There was a time when the GoI decided that BSF use only the non-lethal bullets. The smugglers fought BSF and injured them in a few instances.

They sound like drug smugglers(could be pakistan or indians) on our eastern border who engage in firefights with law enforcements, these ppl are very daring n brash. If its so bad then thats another thing. But we often read about bsf killing unarmed bangladeshi villagers around the border who are not smugglers like falani case. So in case of smuggling lets say shooting is legit but what about other cases?

Felani father was illegally transiting the border, knowing the danger present (esp given it was night time and in high crime zone of the border) and still decided to take his daughter along to climb fences.

He shoulders the biggest burden of blame for losing his daughter. No matter how poor someone is, you never ever put your kid at risk like that....so brazenly.
