Lalmonirhat, Mar 8 (UNB) - Border Security Force (BSF) of India abducted a Bangladeshi young man from Jhalongi frontier in Patgram upazila early this (Thursday) morning.

The victim was identified as Jahangir Alam, 25, son of Badrudding Sheikh of Burimari Masterbari village in the upazila.

Locals said BSF troops from Changrabanda camp of Cooch Bihar picked up Jahangir when he was working on his paddy field near main pillar No.843 in the early morning. They also tortured him mercilessly.

Border Guard Bangladesh-31 Battalion commander Lt Col Aslam said they have sent a letter to its Indian counterpart asking to hand over the young man to them.

Twisted reporting. :disagree:Guy was a cattle smuggler, got arrested red handed and BSF will charge him in court. :blah: Believe it or not BSF has better things to do than go around "picking" random Bangladeshi "youth". They are smugglers, illegal trespassers and its called getting arrested.

Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up a Bangladeshi man from Jhalongi frontier of Lalmonirhat Thursday morning.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sent a letter to its Indian counterpart asking to hand over the man to them, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent quoting Nayak Subedar Abdul Khaleque, Jhalongi camp commander of the BGB.

Describing the incident, Khaleque quoting locals said, the BSF troops of Duyadabri camp of Cooch Behar district picked up 32-year-old Jahangir Hossain around 7:30am when he went at his paddy field to work.The paddy field is near no-mans land of Jhalongi bordering area, Khaleque said.

The Jhalongi camp commander quoting BSF Duyadabri camp said, they picked up Jahangir when he entered Indian territory crossing the Jhalongi bordering area to receive a consignment of cattle.

The man was held with Indian cattle and BSF will take legal action against him, he added.


The BSF statement came when the Jhalongi BGB camp commander asked him verbally about the incident during sending the letter. Jahangir is the son of one Shobha Miah of Burir Bari village in Patgram upazila of the district.
