Brookings Institute: Preventing nuclear Iran by Lobotomizing all Iranians

@haman10

Guys, besides the joke. I was actually thinking about this before you brought it up. I also agree that the pollution that we have in Iran is enough to cause some severe health problems.

But is there any way to induce disabilities like autism nationwide? I see it among a lot of Iranian young children that their parents have recently moved to Canada. It looks like a pattern. I can only give it two explanations:

1. Something deliberately (or not) is causing it in Iran.
2. It is caused by the tough job of trying to learn 2 languages at the same time (Parsi and English) and some big cultural differences that eventually discourages the kids from socializing that leads to slower mental growth.

Would welcome your comments.

It is more complicated than that. I would not vouch for this. The relationship between pollution and health is not a straightforward matter, specially urban pollution (certain industrial work place pollution have a more direct association eg. bladder cancer often occurs in people who work in petroleum and synthetic rubber industry). Much long term research is needed to make any connections. And it is not only urban and industrial pollution that matters. One of the best studied cases is that of solid fuel (mostly wood/coal) usage by non-urban people mostly in poor countries. This last one is probably the largest preventable cause of cancer in the world alongside smoking. The other associations are not as dramatic and as consequential.

But coming to specific question you raised, I would say it is your subjective experience. You see these cases because they are being diagnosed as compared to decades ago when they would never have received any diagnosis. Nowadays with better diagnostic tools and criteria more cases are diagnosed (and even over-diagnosed). Specially in psychiatry since diagnostic criteria in this specialty are quite fluid and even change over time, because it is very difficult to term what is normal and what is "abnormal". The situation gets more muddy, because the medical personnel, specially in fields such as psychiatry have a tendency to over-diagnose.

That is why it is better to stay with solid science, to make sense of it all. Research strongly shows that learning two languages specially early in childhood, improves the IQ and broadens the learning horizon of the child which continues into adulthood. There is no research that I have seen, implying any link between learning a second language and autism.

So here are the answers:

1- No. I do not think you can narrow this down to a single agency. Much conspiracy theories exist trying to narrow down autism to this or that but not much substance.

2- The cultural shock element might make the child withdraw, and even cause poor social development of the child, but causing autism is a stretch. Children usually are much better at coping with cultural shock than adults. And definitive autism actually starts before a child can understand culture, suggesting a neuro-basis for it, rather than parenting environment. There are physiological brain changes which are thought to be due to genetics and environmental play.

Baba Iranian fast food is 10 times worse. I had 1 pizza in Iran in 2007 and my *** is still burning lol

At least with American fast food chains there's some control (govt limits how many calories they can jam into a burger). Iranian fast food is literally heart attack in a bun.

But they taste 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than anything you can find in KFC or McDonald's. That's for sure.
Yeah, that's right. The dilemma is that almost no healthy food is delicious, and no delicious food is healthy. :lol:

I suggest a more practical way. Proven in action.
1.keep supporting Mr Rohani and his fellow.
2.give some long term promises.
