It is a failed war. The West is stuck in a war it cannot possibly win. The fact that a bunch of militants are holding entire cities besieged is very telling. They have been holding onto these cities for a very long time now. It is a cat and mouse game. They lose some territory and gain some territory.

The cities aren't 'western'. This isn't a 'Western' war. Western help is more humanitarian than anything else. Of course nobody wants radical jihadis gaining control over territories and its resources but then we could simply carpet bomb them to hell.

You know that ISIL was avoidable. At the end of the day, ISIL is a Western mistake. Also, US interference in Iraq has made the situation worse. Please don't feel offended. I'm not attacking you personally. I'm just pointing out the obvious. My opinion is that ISIL won't be defeated that easily because they proved to be resilient. They lose territory only to gain territory elsewhere.

The US wanted to remove Saddam on the false pretense of WDMs. They got their way, but destroyed the Middle East and unleashed terror groups all over the region. The reason why the US is now involved in this war is because it is responsible for creating the mess in the first place. All I'm saying is that the US has now also sucked the rest of the Western world into the war against ISIL. We have learnt one thing about this war which is that ISIL isn't an easy enemy to defeat. To defeat ISIL by carpet bombing is wishful thinking.
