CHOGM 2009 - Britain & France Assures India About Their Intention To Stay The Course' In Afghanistan
Britain and France have mentioned that they will definitely be continuing to "stay the course in Afghanistan" along with enhancing their efforts for tackling terrorism, which radiates from Pakistan.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who held talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown separately on the margins of the Commonwealth summit being held in Port of Spain, has urged both the nations to stay engaged in Afghanistan. Sarkozy and Brown have given their word to continue in Afghanistan.
"There was a convergence of views on the situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan. They agreed that more vigorous efforts are required to combat terrorism in the region," Prakash said.
"There should be no double standards in fighting terrorism," he said.
Manmohan Singh, who had been in US on a state visit earlier this week, has stressed the need for world to continue their presence in Afghanistan so that the insurgent forces can be eliminated. He had also warned the world against the dire consequences if world exits Afghanistan earlier.
Sarkozy, while expressing his condolences for the 26/11 Mumbai carnage, has urged Pakistan to take proper action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai massacre.
Manmohan Singh and Sarkozy have also pledged to enhance the counter-terrorism cooperation efforts, while sticking on to the civilian nuclear cooperation.
