Howitzers tender scrapped again

NEW DELHI: Government has scrapped an army tender worth over Rs 4,600 crore to procure 180 self-propelled howitzers, the fourth such cancellation, and initiated a fresh process in this regard. The tender issued two years back was cancelled recently following complaints of snag in the guns of one of the two companies. The two companies include Konstrukta of Slovakia and Rheinmetall of Germany.

instead of tendering and retendering all these years india could have mounted an OFB made bofors on the back of a tatra or a tata or an ashok leyland vehicle and made a wheeled vehicle such as ceasar............. what is with retendering if the bloody bureaucrats had evaluated atleast one tender properly such things wouldnt have happened,,,,,,,,, why the hel doesnt the army push the government for FMS with france or germany when air force does it so easily with c-130s,c-17........

If this goes on, IA will be forced to look at indigenous solution.

IA has already ordered 100 OFB 155mm guns, it's not a problem to install the gun on a truck,
like from Mahindra, TATA or even a TATRA. No need to get so gleeful. Our current 2S19 self-propelled
artillery is enough to pound major bases in Pak.

but.. but sir these very current inventory had brought the **** out of your pakistani soldiers in Kargil. There they did gave a ****. And its not Pakistan we worry about, the howitzers are needed for China

while having good self propelled rocket artillery(which india has) can offset some deficiency in self propelled artillery it cannot be a permanent solution............... this tender is for 180 wheeled artillery guns, still tenders for 100 tracked artillery and 215 mounted artillery guns is going on ,hopefully if they are done then requirements can be met............

First look at the reason why it was cancelled.....what would have you done ...purchase defective gun to save the tender....
Also Local Companies are in foray to develop such gun with JV ....So Gov has more choice now by reissuing tender

I think this news came back in Aug that process for new RFI has began

We don't need 200+ mm howitzer.... we have Pinaka and Smerch that can neutralize vast enemy position in couple of minutes.

Does anyone want to know more about these guns capabilities.
