Bride-Kidnapping in the Caucasus! Tradition or Barbaric Cultural Practice?

If a woman can tell her children that their father kidnapped her, it's a great love story.
I have no doubt that is probably true, and it indeed is culture. But it is wrong, nonetheless.

Man with the amount of time i spend infront of computer i think i will have follow this kind of traditions if my parents wanna see seiko junior :undecided:

:D:D thanks jana ji ..am already blushing  ..you have friends in Kerala right tell them find a good one..

Imagine if your sister was kidnapped by a stranger and then within days pressurised into marrying him!

You wouldn't call it an 'action', would you???? :nono:

I am talking about the kidnapping for the Chechen and Circassian
I do not know about the Kyrgyz or others
for The Chechen and Circassian there is no pressure and force
Against the girl for marriage
The groom is not allowed to stay in the same place with the bride
If the bride's father refused his daughter's marriage
the Girl comes back to her family
so . . There is no pressure . .There is no force . . The groom is not allowed to approach the girl . . until her father agrees and the marriage contract completed

and the chechen are Muslims

do you have a pea nut size brain or if have difficulty in reading between the lines.
customs, traditions, rituals are very beautiful if done with harmony & mutual consent as described by mr NISAN ^^.

even in the titled story(in the starting of thread) it was evident that both groom & bride family had mutual consent excluding the bride, don't we people have similar situation in India ,Pakistan & in other traditional families what we call "arranged marriage " where families decide whom bride 'll merry, although there is no hijack involved

but i can re call similar traditions in Bihar or in M.P (Indian states) among some tribe where couples run away in jungle & later declared married on there arrival :cheesy: (some thing like that).

may be all fingers are not same ,but cant be judged by stray incidents. :agree:

AND BY THE WAY @NASIWISE YOU TALKING ABOUT IS SOME THING MISLEADING & OUT OF CONTEXT.
hope you got the point:yahoo:

There is nothing to read between the lines in your message, it is obvious poorly educated and ill informed people like you are not capable of any such messages.:P

I am talking about Bride-Kidnapping in the Caucasus, specifically in Chechnya where according to a new BBC documentary some girls are kidnapped by strangers and then within days pressurised into marrying them. You need to see this documentary then you may understand what I am talking about. :hitwall:

As far as I know, this kind of barbaric practice does not exist in Pakistan and it is probably also true for India.:pakistan:

.....and you think I am out of context and misleading? Isn't that pot calling the kettle black? :cheesy:

You haven't made any point, stop talking rubbish and come to the point! :victory:

I just hope you are not a Kashmiri from the valley because I admire and respect people from there :pakistan:

According to a recent BBC documentary filmed in Chechnya, that is not entirely true. In it I saw a Chechen women being interviewed who was kidnapped but at first she did not agree to marriage and therefore was taken back by her parents. However same guy kidnapped her again and raped her so that she could refuse marriage second time. Later she discovered her husband was already married. She was very unhappy about it and had attempted suicide.

Instead of dying out, Bride-Kidnapping is on the increase in Chechnya. Many Chechen girls are trapped in unhappy marriages of this kind. They are traumatised and as a result are suffering from mental illnesses.

It seems to me that you don't understand the problem of Bride-Kidnapping in Chechnya . I think you ought to see the BBC documentary on it.

I do not deny the existence of unacceptable practices in India and Pakistan too but you cannot link them to Bride-Kidnapping. In both countries, these practices are against the the law, people caught breaking the law will be prosecuted and punished accordingly. On the other hand, in Chechnya authorities turn a blind eye and do not take any action against the kidnappers.

When I said I respect and admire Kashmiris, I meant all people from the valley. I wish you had asked for clarification before slinging your accusations and insults at me. Let me tell you that I am against ethnic cleansing anywhere in the world and particularly in the valley.
