The Indian finance ministry has approved a proposal to establish a mountain strike corps along the China-India border, the Indian Express reported.

The new corps will include about 89,000 soldiers and 400 officers, the report said on Sunday. The proposal gained momentum because of the latest standoff between Chinese and Indian troops at Tiannan River Valley and was being urgently discussed even when India was preparing for Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit, the report said.

we should not only raise a mountain strike corps,we should arm them properly.Ultra light Howitzers like M777,capable helos for this kind of high altitude warfare as well as use of armor,which is relatively tough to use this kind of terrains backed by air power can make a big difference.India currently has around 10 divisions dedicated to mountain warfare(8 mountain divisions and 2 strike divisions).now,2 additional mountain divisions are coming up as well as a new mountain strike corps..thats something..

No ,it's not old news.This proposal was awaiting approval from finance ministry which was previously scuttled during Pranav Mukharjee tenure.
