Breaking : Vedanta Partners With Foxconn To Make Semiconductors In India

Let me break down the PLI Scheme:

1. Atleast 2 semiconductor fabrication plants
2. Atleast 2 display fabrication plants
3. Incentive for 100 domestic chip design firms
4. 15-20 Assembly OSAT / ATMP facilities
5. 15-20 Compound semiconductor manufacturing plants (Gallium Nitride for example).

So Vedanta must be looking for display fabrication plants under the PLI Scheme.

.
it's not only for India. These have standardized manufacturing processes, except the absolute latest ones like oleds, and the market is the whole world.
About time.
I have been seriously pissed with tata group for wasting billions in buying companies in uk , while not investing anything in the sunrise industries in India.

just need the right partner to handhold you at the start.
Japanese and koreans support you very well after equipment supply. So do the germans.
The rest of the world, depends on your luck.

no lcd manufacturing in India at the moment. Its mostly a assembly plant.

Japanese are costly but trustworthy. Koreans would fleece you with words. The reason I have less confidence on companies like Reliance or Vedanta is , they had a lot of opportunities over decades to manufacture mining equipment on their own. Heavy machinery is kinda huge money. Reliance built.the largest refinery in Jam Nagar. Every single piece was imported. Why didn't they try to do some portion in India? Or even R&D themselves?

I do have hope on Tata, L&T, Mahindras, Infosys etc. Tata spoke less and moved 5000crore INR to build a Electronics manufacturing plant in Hosur. These guys speak more, do less and milk money in this time frame.

Even in this thread, initial news said, JV with Foxconn. Now it has shifted to Japanese company. See. Even Vedanta is not sure on it's investments plan or JV with. Foxconn is a EMS major, they probably do little chip manufacturing.

India has enough chip design firms. Reliance secretly closed a deal for a Chennai chip design firm with expertise in LTE/5G chipsets. I think 3 years back. We have design expertise. Hope.PLI gets TSMC here.

.
That's what they claim.
nope. Just checked. Only a handful of lcd , led PANEL manufacturing countries. Taiwan, korea, China.
A couple of units in Germany and uk.
Rest all are assembly units.

vedanta had got clearance in 2017 with lg and then the government back tracked , refused subsidy , and it was shelved in 2019.
Makes one tear hair out.
The babu log it seems made their own calculations . Or the payout didn't come through for the bureaucracy.

Fortunately TATA has professional management and are not swayed by inane short sighted and unprofitable punts in the dark.

TATA will enter when and only when it feels the chances of success are on the right side of the ledger.

Many have committed seppuku investing with their hearts and not their brains

Who knows they may at this very moment be checking their investment slide rules. PLI must be tempting.

True, most global chip design firms have their R&D centres in India and many of them are expanding their presence in India.

I have worked with koreans, germans, Italians, Americans, chinese and Spanish.
the germans, koreans take full responsibility for their equipment.
Americans give good quality equipment. So no issues.
The spanish, Italians will put in minimum required and run away if problems come.
The Chinese are cheap . Buy lots of spares and keep a good inhouse technical team. Don't expect much support.
Tata has wasted a lot of money in foreign acquisitions. 12 b usd in corus uk , now it's worth zero.
Jaguar 2.5 b usd , Nothing made in India. High paying jobs for the British.
Their nexon ev is a assembly piece. Except body , everything is imported.
love L& t. A true engineering firm in India. Generating work , employment and expertise in India.
Sorry for the off topic.

tata has lost billions in waste procurement in uk. Corus uk , jaguar , etc.
Their tata nano was a disaster. Investment down the drain.
No brains involved.

Wiki is not really updated. Moreover those stuffs are not modified by employees of that orgs. Again Samsung claims that they manufacture displays here. Normal LCD or LED are not like precision engineering.

So many unemployed Indians in here jumping with joy.

If you didn't comprehend what this thread is about, read again. It may be about Jobs!
Oh wait..you were so insecure that it didn't matter what you posted but you had to post some bad news about India. I was trying to explain.. LOL!
Ok. Carry on buddy!

It always seems to 4 or 5 states that are in 'discussion' for big ticket FDI investments. Wonder what the other states are up to? :undecided:

Kerala has the highest per capita literacy with abundance of natural resources. Surprisingly, the state is not among the usual 5.

State is good but not good for FDI on manufacturing sector, Their workers can call strike way too often.
