I stand corrected. The American officials are now claiming the 34km was the distance that the drone was away from the Iranian territory. So while it was flying in high altitude, the 34km mentioned in earlier reports was not referring to it.
Not sure how people missed it but the altitude here is very significant.
"At the time of the intercept, the RQ-4 was operating at high-altitude approximately 34 kilometers from the nearest point of land on the Iranian coast," he said.
That is an equivalence of 111548.556 feet altitude. If Iranian air defense systems, especially locally produced ones, can reach that high, then Iran has game-changing air defense systems in its disposal. This definitely makes any attacks on Iranian inland assets very difficult to achieve.
