Breaking news: Shahed 129 (Iranian UAV )

I think they use Tercom. They may act like log-range cruise missiles.

Correct, INS (Inertial navigation system) + TERCOM (terrain contour matching) + ATR (automatic target recognition), etc. make long range UAVs possible without direct link through radio, GPS or satellites.

However, if UAVs are used within the country or for the border patrol, radio towers can be used to constantly communicate with UAV even if its range is 50.000 km :azn:

.
Isnt real time intelligence is the point in these kind of UAVs? TERCOM ATR ? it is not cruise missile, you are out of your mind...

Depends if its on reconnaissance or bombing mission, UAVs arent for intelligence gathering-only. Even for reconnaissance, you dont have to have 24/7 connection with UAV, not even US have that. While on the fly monitoring is handy, data gathering and uploading after return has its uses as well.

Actually we can't use GPS to navigate our UAVs, missiles and etc.You know it belongs to USA and it is not guarantied.

Ok, but the question is when the uav gets to the destination how they can control it and get shots of the target????.

Only 50km?

Retrieving data after the uav back to base is not a good option since the percentage of uav coming back is so little???!!!.

I would say the (realistic) operational range of this drone would be around 200km, considering there are no satellite communications. How much load can it carry anyway?

firstly congratulations!

but I should say 1700 to 2000 km range is ridiculous! since without satcom- satellite communication this is unfortunatly not possible!

I hope you realize that a 2000KM range does NOT obligate the drone to travel 2000KM away from its base! It can easily loiter over the Persian Gulf for that distance, right within traditional radio communication, and be quite useful too!

Also remember that Iran is a rather large country with very long borders. A high endurance drone that can cover that distance will have many internal applications like border watch, disaster relief, fight against narco trafficking...

Iran already has access to bases in the region that will allow it to send its existing drones over to Israel. So the don't have to fly them all the way from Iran, if they don't want to.
