Janet Yellen is weighing a trip to China in the coming months that would be her first as US Treasury secretary, people familiar with the matter said, as the Biden administration engages in a broad review of policy toward the Asian power and the tariffs on imported goods enacted under former president Donald Trump.
The Treasury Department’s discussions on a possible Yellen visit are in the early stages and no decision has been made, with considerations including travel risks stemming from the delta variant of the coronavirus, the people said on the condition of anonymity because the deliberations are private.
If the trip goes ahead, she would be likely meet Vice-Premier Liu He – regarded as China’s top economic official – and would be the highest ranking Biden appointee to visit the country.

Yet another begging visit intended for China to significantly increase buying of US treasury bonds as what had been done in 2010 for GFC. Personally I wouldn't believe she can achieve the goal in the context of China's recent crackdowns on real estate and education markets which indicates they are not planning any drastic increase of RMB printing and hence no reason to increase T-Bonds buying significantly except that for offsetting interest loss on trade surplus.

Pompeo failed it, Blinken and Sullivan failed it, Sherman failed it and so will Yellen.

On the one hand, the United States begs for China’s help. On the other hand, the Americans believe that they can force China to make concessions through strong pressure.
Obviously the U.S. policy had failed, and China had not made concessions, nor had it helped the U.S. improve its economy.

US inflation is a major problem for them. They created too much money and no one big enough in the world to absorb that inflation except China.

China could make US inflation even worse by doing more international transactions with the RMB. Undermining the dollar’s reserve currency role is the ultimate weapon China can play. The time has come for China to play that card now.

To kill inflation, US must beg China become more "currency manipulator", aka buy more treasury to lower RMB.

I guess China will say ok we will do it, but you sell Taiwan.

Taiwan was always suppose to be reunited with China but the last president was a fool, let their decline go even deeper.

Let inflation destroy their economy and increase social unrest. Don’t need to buy any more dollars. China need to use less dollars as possible.

My guess is nothing substantial. Only small agreements probably. China help US in 2008, but in the end US stab China in the back. Any agreement will be short and small, because the next president is not going to honor agreements, like what happen to Iran.

The American ship is incorrigible, but China can provide some lifeboats for the American elite. 8-)

Probably an attempt to try to convince BoC not to dispose their holding of US T-bonds so rapidly.

Hillary Clinton did that as Obama Secretary of State.

It was rumoured that the Hainan pilot free trade zone was set up in order to be a future playground for Jewish elites fleeing away from America in case of something ultimately going irreparable over there.
